tragabigzanda wrote:They're rolling out a bunch of UYI 30th anniversary stuff, a million different packages... But uniform across all offerings is the fact that November Rain is re-recorded. So whether it's the streaming version or the Super Deluxe 8-LP version for $300 (or whatever it is), you're getting a new version of November Rain. :haha:
Had to look in to this a bit further:
The new rendition features a 50-piece orchestra, arranged and conducted by Christopher Lennertz. The composer has a long resume across film, television and video games. He’s a two-time Emmy nominee thanks to his work on the series Supernatural and The Boys.

The new version of “November Rain” was mixed by Steven Wilson, frontman of English rock group Porcupine Tree, who has also remixed albums by a long list of classic rock artists, including: King Crimson, Jethro Tull, Yes, Rush, Roxy Music, Black Sabbath and Kiss.

“The new 2022 version is the same performance as the original, and mixed faithfully to the established version, but with newly recorded orchestration replacing the sampled sounds used at the time,” Wilson reported via social media. The fully orchestral rendition will replace the classic version in the upcoming box set.

i sometimes wonder what pre-UYI songs would sound like on that album. 'patience' would be like 8 minutes long with a huge string section. 'night train' could be their heaviest and loudest song. i dove back into UYI albums over the summer, they're both great and hilarious.

In a new interview, famed band manager Alan Niven has spoken out about his time working Guns N’ Roses at the height of their success – stating that it was Izzy Stradlin who was most responsible for the band’s commercial success.

Steven Adler - Dave Krusen
Duff McKagan - Jeff Ament
Slash - Mike McCready
Axl Rose - Eddie Vedder
Izzy Stradlin - Stone Gossard

Very different, but there are also some similarities.

The drummers left first because of substance abuse.
The bassists were both creative, talented and with ties to Seattle from the early 80s.
Great lead guitarists, that have not been great song writers, especially in the early days.
Charismatic powerful lead singers, that grabbed more and more control of the band.
Rythm guitarists that more or less formed and initially ran the band, and was heavily involved in the best of the early song writing. Both level headed.

Cool! I loved seeing them a few years ago pre-covid.

How was it?

it was very fun. The band was tight and Axl was in very good shape, the guy just doesnt stop for a second. He was in a very good humor too, i bever saw him so happy and engaging. They really were enjoying themselves.

Highlights for me were Knocking On Heavens Door, Patience, Sweet Child Of Mine, Estranged, Absurd (sounded really cool) and Its So Easy.

They played for 3 hours.

I really liked Absurd live. Axl sounded great. He really pushed it last night, with a variety of results.

Knocking On Heavens door was reworked, sounded great. And they seemed to be jamming a little bit more, i wouldnt be surpised if they are actually working on material.

I tend to be suspect of autobiographies like that. You’re only really getting one guy’s recollections and they’re different from the other guy’s which one do you believe?

After a leak on bar jukeboxes over the weekend, Guns N’ Roses officially released the new single “Perhaps” via Audacy rock stations today (August 17th).

According to a press release, per Audacy, the song was “written and recorded by Axl Rose, Slash, and Duff McKagan this year,” and marks their “first collective new composition and recording together in 30 years since 1993’s The Spaghetti Incident?”

While Slash and Duff may have had a bigger hand in writing the official version of “Perhaps” than the band’s 2021 singles “Hard Skool” and “ABSUЯD” (which were both reworked from years-old demos), “Perhaps” is not an entirely new song.

A rough demo version of “Perhaps” has been floating around for several years, and Guns N’ Roses played the song during a soundcheck before a show in Israel in June of this year. There is also a debate about whether Robin Finck or Queen’s Brian May played guitar on an original Chinese Democracy-era demo of “Perhaps.”

Regardless, any “new” music from Guns N’ Roses is a welcome treat for fans, especially with core members Axl, Duff, and Slash involved. Perhaps the band will give the song its live debut during its current 2023 North American tour, which runs until mid October. Tickets for GN’R’s upcoming shows are available here.
