That's one player, what about the rest of the farm system? They aren't in a position to move Moncada if the system doesn't have depth.

Also, these "small market" teams act like they are operating at a deficit. They make a ton of money both in profit and revenue sharing, because they chose not to reinvest it in the team is not the fault of the evil Red Sox and Yankees.

Tampa Bay, for example, takes in more in revenue sharing money than they spend on their roster.

The Sox and Yankees and other big market teams have a massive financial advantage over small market teams. Small market teams often don't spend as much as they could, but they don't have the huge amount of flexibility of the bigger teams.

The cubs gave Jason Heyward 200 million dollars, to be a defensive outfielder that can't even pretend to hit on a major league level. No big deal for them.

By the time we get a guy we like, that can play at all, they're getting traded for 5 fucking shit ass left handers that can't even shave and that's why outside of about 3 cities in a given year, no one gives a fuck about baseball. It's boring as shit if the players aren't interesting.

People always talk about having star power to draw fans to the games, but that's a very, very small part of it. Winning is the best (and I would suggest only) way to get fans to show up. If your team sucks but you have a couple exciting players, fans still aren't going to come out. You're much better off trading them and working on putting a contending team together.

Of course, as with Sale, who obviously wanted out anyway but take Pittsburgh for instance, 20 years of irrelevance, they're finally pretty good again, and they dump Melancon for the pennant race? Why? If you're not going to try why own the team? So, trade him early to get something for him rather than sign him for 62 million... ok.
