It’s a stronger scene this way.

So, ultimately the Chosen One that brings balance to the Force turned out to be Rey, not Vader. Other than giving Rey a new last name, there’s no reason for any of the Skywalkers to be important in this “Saga”. Rey is Palpatine’s granddaughter. She existed totally outside any Skywalker bloodline, so they serve no purpose in this story at all other than being secondary to Palpatine the whole time. The Skywalker Saga is actually the Palpatine Saga.

Luke destroyed the first death star. Anakin did kill Palpatine, with Luke’s guidance and example. Leia and friends helped destroy the second death star. Leia was the military leader behind the destruction of Starkiller Base. Rey then defeated Palpatine (clone?) with the help of Luke, Leia and even Ben. Rey is then brought back from death by Ben, and ends up changing her name to Skywalker. So perhaps no purpose is a bit strong.

I’ve seen it brought up that Finn wanted to tell Rey he’s force-sensitive, which makes more sense than saying he loves her, but like, the movie didn’t do a lot to suggest that he was and wanted to say that?

yeah, the movie doesnt go there at all.
Its one of those "expanded book" things i guess.

That’s funny, because I thought there were several hints that he was force sensitive, but that it would be awful if he said he was force sensitve, just as they were dying.

Especially at the end, when he senses which ship is the control ship.

Did we need a new "cute" Droid other than for toys?
Chewy is dead... No he's not!
C3PO lost his memory... No he didn't!
Kylo is dead... No he isn't!
Rey is dead... No she isn't!
It's like shock factor just for a few minutes so nobody gets upset after the movie. I was fully expecting Leia to come back to life at the end.

The fakeouts were so unnecessarily overused.
