To the surprise of no one, I thought the Point Break remake was a lot better than the original. The relationship between Utah and Bohdi carried a lot more weight and significance, and the clearly shot-on-location set-pieces were quite staggering. They cross the line from being merely impressive to being movingly expressive. The huge amount of passion Ericson Core poured into this project is palpable; it has such a boots-on-the-ground earnestness, similar to the films of John Stockwell. It's only real issue is some wonky editing/pacing (mostly in the first 20 minutes), but overall I found it very beautiful.

Heh, "better than Point Break" doesn't strike me as a glowing endorsement.

I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

We've reached a place I simply can't understand if we're going to extol the values of "empty-headedness."

Was there surfing in it though? That's the whole reason the last one was called Point Break - they were robbing banks to fund their endless summer surfing. If not - then why was it called Point Break?

Yes, there is surfing. And they discuss what "point break" means in the movie.

It better not be the whole 'What's you're breaking point?' like the slogan on the posters

since they are leaving netflix I'm rewatching the first two Mission Impossible and Bourne movies, which I had seen but barely remembered. It's amazing how much the action quota in these movies has ramped up in the last 15 years.

I'm not gonna see this, so for all I know LV is correct. But reading his posts here gives me a lot of insight into how I must be perceived in PJ chat discussing anything post 2006.

The first MI is pretty good. The John Woo one is the worst of the series....and the second Bourne movie is fuckin good.
