The 18-year-old Middle Eastern student reported to police Wednesday that she was walking to class about 11 a.m. when two white men, one wearing a Donald Trump hat, jumped out of an SUV, struck her and hit her repeatedly. She also said the men yelled racial slurs at her, ripped her hijab off her head and stole her wallet.
She has since admitted to police that she lied about the attack.

I have to say, a lot of the stories like this that have been being posted on social media sound totally bogus to me. I don't doubt incidents like these are occurring, but the narrative being created - that there is some widespread, nation-consuming pandemic of hate crimes happening because of Trump being elected - seems absurdly overstated.

Jesus Christ guys, there are stories like this all over. The vigilante group one is a confirmed story from San Marcos, TX that the police are actively investigating. You really think they're ALL fake? I sure as shit don't, and if even half of them are real (and I think it's much more than that) we are in a really dark and fucked up place.
The capacity of this board and the American public at large to victim blame, gaslight, and just generally be shitty to their fellow human beings will never cease to amaze me.
