Seems to be a lot of buzz around this. Made for $10M, being compared to The Godfather and There Will be Blood in it's theme. Nearly 4hrs long. Currently has a stunning 97% score on Rotten Tomatoes .

In The Brutalist, visionary architect László (Brody) and his wife Erzsébet (Felicity Jones) flee post-war Europe in 1947 to rebuild their legacy and witness the birth of modern America. After a tough start in their new home country, their lives are changed forever by a mysterious and wealthy client, Harrison Lee Van Buren (Guy Pearce), as we follow them over a 30-year period.

yeah, doesnt look good. Also, Flanagan needs to do stuff outside any King material.

I remember when I liked Flanagan. Oculus showed a lot of promise when it came out (though even then Flanagan was bad visually). But streaming and King have ruined him. He's terrible now.

yeah Oculus is wonderful. Ouija 2 too. I loved how grim his movies were, the endings were so fucked up.

Carrie is perfect as is. Leave it alone, Mike Flanagan.

not a fan of Carrie. I tried several times and can't get into it. I have a general aversion to DePalma. I like Scarface OK, but struggle with the rest of his stuff i've tried

I need to rewatch Scarface. I didn't like it when I first watched it, but I think I might have just been reacting to the idiots who idolize Tony Montana. It was a long time ago too and my tastes have really changed.

De Palma is one of the best ever and Scarface is a masterpiece

Carlito Brigante is a far more compelling character, Tony Montana is cartoonish.

Boring take, Carlito's Way is good but overrated, it's got nothing on Scarface. A character being more understated doesn't make them more complex. Tony's incestuous and violent overprotection of his sister to the point of murder and self-destruction is far more compelling than Carlito's sappy, tragic romance with glass-of-skim-milk Penelope Ann Miller.

I think its fair to see them as two sides of the same coin.
Carlito could have been Tony Montana coming back from prision. Thats why Carlito´s Way is so good and resonates a lot, because its not trying to be Scarface pt 2 like a lot of folks wanted when it came out.
