Re: Dark Matter: Official Album Thread
I've never had an album simultaneously excite me and bore me as much as Gigaton. If anything - DM seems to crescendo in all the right spots where in Gigaton, they'd often fall flat where they needed to soar. Not that I didn't enjoy Gigaton. I did. But even my favorite songs had parts I wished were a little different or sounded like two or three separate song ideas mashed into one.bluestate wrote:I usually listen to the first 6 tracks on Gigaton then lose interest during the back half. The biggest difference between Gig and DM is that, on DM, you are more likely to be rewarded by listening to the end.

this comment has been made elsewhere, here and in reviews, but one thing it looks like Watt really helped them do is lean into the moments that are archetypal pearl jam that are always there live and yet have felt absent on records for a long time - either like they were afraid to lean in or their process didn't allow for

With all the convo about it, I’m listening to Gigaton right now.
Take the long way is such a great song, 7/8 time. Noice!
Edited: 4/4 time in chorus solo and 3/4 time in outro, haha

I listened to Gigaton last night...i still absolutely adore this album! Though i am noticing a bit of a cooling on it around here, though thats is kind of par for the course when a new album comes around.Arthur Morgan wrote:With all the convo about it, I’m listening to Gigaton right now.

That Rolling Stone article is pretty great... that story about leaving a note and a guitar at the Bridge School for Eddie is pretty wild

I think being in the room together is the secret sauce and building off each other. Not bringing in demos but just ideas and not complete demos.stip wrote:this comment has been made elsewhere, here and in reviews, but one thing it looks like Watt really helped them do is lean into the moments that are archetypal pearl jam that are always there live and yet have felt absent on records for a long time - either like they were afraid to lean in or their process didn't allow for

Between the last 2 Watt interviews, I don't know how anyone could just assume he's a pretentious jackass? He sounds like a guy I would love to hang out with and talk about PJ
