people are going to need to channel their Gandhi and MLK to get through this

if they are words just let them be words

they are the wrong words

but people will have to be strong; and remain peaceful, and do the right thing because it is right; and not react with violence

this will pass

its is awful

it will test a new generation that hasn't faced this kind of adversity

and make them stronger afterward

if they respond peacefully and with dignity
This is actually a really interesting point. This may be the end of millennials as we know them. That brand of optimism is going to be crushed by this reality.
I dunno, man. I hang out with a lot of millennials who are POC and they've been dealing with this sort of stuff since they've been able to walk. It may be a different degree, but certainly not the first time.
Yes, but Trump being elected is pretty much millennial 9/11
wow
I think what LV means (and he can correct me if I'm wrong) is that this is already being discussed as "the day everything changed"; you can see it in the way people are reminding each other that "the sun will rise tomorrow, no matter what." The rhetoric surrounding the events is already strikingly similar; there's no way to tell if it'll last, but it's there.

Except Americans electing the least qualified candidate ever. Let's not forget that.

I was being semi-facetious. But I definitely don't think it's true that "nothing has changed" with Trump's election.

I do think there is some validity to this being a seismic shift in millennial culture, since it so based in optimism and progressivism. It's like pop culture as a big diversity celebration. This is putting a huge roadblock into that narrative. Things are going to get a lot darker in millennial culture.

Perhaps. I see a bit of what you're saying about the optimism as a cultural dominant; when I was 18 and studying literature, the coolest thing in the world was existentialism. The whole idea of a Sisyphean view of the world gave me a giant boner. When I read the same books with my students, their responses tend to be, "This book proves that if you work hard enough, things will eventually get better!"

In defense of the Republicans, maybe their economic plans will be effective. After all, most of them still have jobs.
