Steve Earle is pretty much bulletproof. Doesn't mean it was a good choice.

It is a strange one isn’t it? Wonder what they’re playing at

They were just trying to get people who don’t watch Andor to think they’re missing out on some Marvel-esque stoopidity and fun. Sort of like the way Midnight Run’s trailer was edited to give it 20% more Cannonball Run energy.

Disney’s attitude about Andor is very clearly “nice to have, but we could really use a hit.” They know that the show’s fans are coming back either way, so they’re trying to broaden the appeal and make some fucking money for a change.

But they must’ve workshopped the idea into the ground, because the results feel insecure and overwrought. And they probably would’ve gotten more Internet virility out of something like Harpy Hare.

as a non andor fan, the trailer was really cool (RM user Dime forced me to watch it) but yeah, the music choice was pretty weird. I thought it was a fan edit or something.

But the trailer looked great.

The text banners were what made me think it was fan made. That was the cheesy part to me.

They'll make money when they stop spending hundreds of millions of dollars on god knows what for shows like Secret Invasion.

They’ll start making money when they remember that good stories come from inspired creative misfits.

Studios have spent the first quarter of the new century elevating lapdogs who are good at being told what the studio wants them to do. They buy a Star Wars, they decide what their version of Star Wars “must” and “must not” be, and they find someone who will obediently write to that. Less messy. Feels less risky. Enables assembly line production. Very good.

Occasionally, someone who self-perceives as a creative misfit and doesn’t understand the assignment gets misread as having lapdog potential, and you end up with The Last Jedi. Somewhat less occasionally, an actual creative misfit builds a track record strong enough to get let into the party….and you get Andor. But the studio mindset these days is to so thoroughly devalue the creatives that they can’t put their finger on what the difference was. They’re so utterly baffled, they think Andor will do better if the trailer makes it look like a dull-eyed lapdog production.

You're preaching to the choir -- the expenditures on Secret Invasion are just a symptom of the problem you describe. They have no idea what they're doing and think throwing money at things until someone thinks a show (Secret Invasion) or film (BNW) "works" is a sane approach.

Confirmed that there there is 5 year gap between each of the sets of three episode drops.

I bought the new Reign of the Empire book at Barnes & Noble yesterday and the cashier asked if I’d seen the latest trailer before proceeding to shit all over the music.
