Sault's Untitled (Black Is) is the one that I think takes the #1 spot.

The other album that's a late add (but does not challenge Fiona) is Hearts Town by The War and Treaty.

I haven't decided if it's the better record yet. But it might be. It got me really hard.

Not all of it. Let it unfold. It's a ton of different genres. It's gorgeous.

Sault are a pseudonymous British music collective that make a mixture of rhythm and blues, house and disco. Despite critical acclaim, they eschew interaction with the media. They frequently foreground black-centric issues.

So sayeth wikipedia.

I got about four songs into it before my kids crashed my listening party complaining that they needed to eat dinner. Assholes. What I heard I really liked. Lots of authentic sounds that don’t normally form the backbone of songs I’m used to hearing (Fiona Apple is an exception, which is why I love her). I need more time with it this week. Thanks for the recommendation.

They released a second Untitled record this year, too. I haven't listened to that one yet because I love the first one so much. But I like knowing it's there.

Here's a late discovery of a very early 2020 record. Torgeir Waldemar is a Norwegian dude who does what sounds to me like Americana via the Fjords. He released his album Love back in January and it's an enjoyable listen.

Here's his tune 'Heart and Gold' - check it:
