On this past Friday 13th, watched:
2009 Remake (not great, but not as bad as everyone says)
Part V (one of my guilty pleasures of the series)
Jason X (looks like a cheap sci-fi TV show, but has the best kill of the series (frozen face smash) and love the cameo from David Cronenberg)

I watched Jason Goes To Hell, I was surprised how much I liked given that is considered the absolute worst in the franchise. I say its super underrated. Maybe as a Friday movie doesnt totally work, but is a very good horror movie, in the vein of The Hidden.

I adore Jason Goes To Hell. I saw it as a kid in the theatre! and it actually looks great.

Did you guys know that this one was supposed to be the entry to Ash vs Jason? that dagger is in theory the same that ED. and there was supposed some use to the necronomicon too.

Watching Jason Takes Manhattan. I always had a soft spot for this one, back in the day it was widely reviled as the worst of the worst sequels, but I think the ship setting works and they did a far better job of incorporating the mandatory NOES-style fantasy stuff than part 7 (which for my money is easily the worst of the series.)

What are some of the best possession movies? I tend to really like them, but there are a lot I haven’t seen.

Possession (1981), fittingly enough, is at the very top of the list to see. I’m for sure watching that one in the coming weeks.

I watched Carrie (76) last night. I went in pretty blind - it's sort of impossible to not have a few things spoiled.

I loved it. It was a surprisingly sweet movie up until the end and I was surprised by by tragic a character Carrie was. Tommy and the gym teacher dying was really sad.

Obviously De Palma shot the shit out of it and I really liked all of his Hitchcockian flourishes, although I can see how some people would find it dated.

It was a beautiful and tragic movie that I'll definitely be adding to my Halloween watch list.

Piper Laurie died recently. damn she was so good on this movie.

watched "Vampir" (2021) last night, not sure why I haven't seen it before as it's totally my thing, really excellent

also I can't remember if I already said it but because of the Saw buzz lately (pun intended) I rewatched Saw -- a really solid movie full of tension -- and Saw II for the first time -- it's fine, shlocky surface fun but half the acting is laughably bad and it's almost completely devoid of the first movie's tension or creativity; I feel like I might try to watch III then X and call it done; Tobin Bell and Shawnee Smith deserved better than to waste their time on this franchise

Pope's Exorcist. It wasn't scary and rather paint by numbers but I did enjoy Crowe.
