I have serious problems with your placement of Shake Your Head Yes, Say Something, and Last Time.

From July 26th when you asked if I thought you were going to like it:stip wrote:She's a very nice lyricist
durdencommatyler wrote:I imagine you'll find quite bit to like in the lyrics. Especially in songs like Velveteen and Omaha. But overall, I think it will be your least favorite of their albums. It's very ambient and layered. There's a lot of synth sounds and much of the song-scape is centered around a Casio.
Laura sounds as good as ever, though. And there's a lot to digest. It's a much more dense record than the last two. Nothing about it breezes.

I... I'm sorry?cutuphalfdead wrote:I have serious problems with your placement of Shake Your Head Yes, Say Something, and Last Time.
Last Time is lovely but it's nowhere near as good as everything else on the record. Well, that's not true. Orion and Last Time are pretty close. I could maybe switch those two.
Say Something I could see gaining some ground as the album ages. I really dig it and it has some heft and staying power for sure. We'll have to revisit this from time to time to see if anything's changed.

Re: The Mynabirds
It is really ambient and synth heavy, which is something I'm going to need some time with. That's a tougher sell for me (the layers are welcome) I also wish she sounded a bit less processed. There's a metallic dreamy quality to her sound that is prefer not be there - at least in conjunction with the music. I think I'd prefer one or the other.
I do really like wildfire. If you recall my beef with generals was that it was trying too hard to be an anthem and the chorus felt contrived (the verses are amazing). Wildfire feels much more natural - it's a quiet anthem, but those moments flow beautifully out of the verses

Fight a war or get back into bed is one of my favorite lyrics on the record.durdencommatyler wrote:I... I'm sorry?cutuphalfdead wrote:I have serious problems with your placement of Shake Your Head Yes, Say Something, and Last Time.

Yeah, I dig that too. The lyrics are so strong all across this record.cutuphalfdead wrote:Fight a war or get back into bed is one of my favorite lyrics on the record.durdencommatyler wrote:I... Re: The Mynabirds
After 3 listens Wildfire is certainly my favorite, but All My Heart, Hanged Man, and One Foot (which was pretty low down on Chud and DcT's lists, I think) were the other tracks I find myself drawn to.
This has really made me want to give Generals another try, and I think it's given me a fresh appreciation for that album. Karma Debt jumped out at me in a way it hadn't before.
