goddamn shootout took place last night at my favorite Mexican restaurant. This place easily had the best margarita's in town. Two people died. All over someone getting pissed off over getting pushed.

damn good question. I consider someone who is out and getting hammered drunk with a gun on their person a douchebag so kind of in between the two elements.

Don't those things go hand in hand? Keeping in mind 'mental illness' is pretty broad terminology.

All of the following fall under 'mental disorders,' aka 'mental illness': depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, eating disorders, addictive behaviors, etc.

And while each of those, as well as many other conditions, do belong on such a list...the vastness of the resulting scope makes the term 'mental illness' nigh on useless as a tool for understanding violent behavior. Saying someone is 'mentally ill' is like saying someone has autism....autism is a tremendously open set of behaviors and conditions, and in fact you don't 'have' autism....you fall somewhere on the spectrum of associated conditions.

So the thing is, even if this were measurably true...

Does it matter that many of the non muslim mass shootings are actually committed by the mentally ill (and idiot children)?

...it would be hard to evaluate for any form of cause/effect.

I think it's even more complicated as an argument than that. The muslim mass shootings and even more so suicide bombings are executed by people who can arguably be described as mentally ill more often than not.
