Edit: what’s the point in society maintaining a concept of gender if there are 100+ variations?
This is obviously off-the-charts ridiculous, but even so, who fucking cares? Why is someone's gender identification so important to you? You're always on some trip about this and I just don't get it. Nobody is asking you to identify differently, so why does it matter so much? None of this is harming you in any way.

I don’t believe at any point I have said that the baseline behavior should be anything other than treat everyone equally and respect each individuals choices, including pronouns

The problem is that misgendering someone can constitute harassment in my state, so the need to understand the rules is real. If there are 100 genders, each with their own rule set, it becomes an out of control mess to try and treat people with basic human dignity and I don’t want to get fired or have to fire someone for using Xi when they should’ve used Xer

BurtReynolds wrote:Enough about boring pronouns. Let's talk about race and media manipulation!

http://nymag.com/intelligencer/amp/2019 ... e[quote]In a NYT town hall recently leaked to the press, a reporter asked the executive editor, Dean Baquet, why the Times doesn’t integrate the message of the 1619 Project into every single subject the paper covers: “I’m wondering to what extent you think that the fact of racism and white supremacy being sort of the foundation of this country should play into our reporting … I just feel like racism is in everything. It should be considered in our science reporting, in our culture reporting, in our national reporting. And so, to me, it’s less about the individual instances of racism, and sort of how we’re thinking about racism and white supremacy as the foundation of all of the systems in the country.”

It’s a good point, isn’t it? If you don’t believe in a liberal view of the world, if you hold the doctrines of critical race theory, and believe that “all of the systems in the country” whatever they may be, are defined by a belief in the sub-humanity of black Americans, why isn’t every issue covered that way? Baquet had no answer to this contradiction, except to say that the 1619 Project was a good start: “One reason we all signed off on the 1619 Project and made it so ambitious and expansive was to teach our readers to think a little bit more like that.” In other words, the objective was to get liberal readers to think a little bit more like neo-Marxists.

The New York Times, by its executive editor’s own admission, is increasingly engaged in a project of reporting everything through the prism of white supremacy and critical race theory, in order to “teach” its readers to think in these crudely reductionist and racial terms. That’s why this issue wasn’t called, say, “special issue”, but a “project”. It’s as much activism as journalism. And that’s the reason I’m dwelling on this a few weeks later. I’m constantly told that critical race theory is secluded on college campuses, and has no impact outside of them … and yet the newspaper of record, in a dizzyingly short space of time, is now captive to it. Its magazine covers the legacy of slavery not with a variety of scholars, or a diversity of views, but with critical race theory, espoused almost exclusively by black writers, as its sole interpretative mechanism.

Awesome source, very thought-provoking!

Is that the NYT thing where they claim the Constitution was just a trick to maintain slavery?

Newspapers have always reflected the communities/cities they are in.

It's amazing that middle America conservatives have always expected The New York Times to project their opinions.

BurtReynolds wrote:Why does it matter? Because refusal to go along with it or even making a simple mistake gets you tarred and feathered as a transphobe, and can have very real consequences to both individual's careers, as well as to society and institutions.
Please provide the following:

2 social institutions that have suffered real and significant (ie not a public scolding) costs due to simple mistakes which were not repeated.

5 examples of people who experienced the same. I’m asking for five because I need to see a trend and not isolated incidents. Also, fact check them thoroughly, as relying only on conservative writers will make you feel victorious but look otherwise.

Kathleen Stock, for example, came under fire for public (not university) speeches and articles advocating for keeping trans women out of women’s restrooms. The university issued the following statement:
“Our member of staff has made it very clear that she is expressing her personal views and is not talking on behalf of the University. As a university, we support academic freedom and we must defend the right of any individual to hold and express their personal views, within the law.
She naively seemed to take this as permission to go gangbusters and switched almost entirely from writing academically to politically. She publicly attacked the NHS for providing trans services, signed a public letter protesting trans rights, and campaigned against the Gender Recognition Act, which would allow people to be legally recognised as their chosen gender. It’s not like she was fired for sharing her perspective. She was a university employee injecting herself into the political side of the debate, including specific legislation.

Huh? Really! Conservative talk show fucktwits started driving home the "liberal media" BS in the early Clinton years.

Consistently citing the NYT/LAT as a source for liberal "brainwashing."

Peace. What I meant was belief in the idea that the Constitution was a scam to protect slavery
