I am pretty sure he already ruined it for me with his first clipdimejinky99 wrote:What if we end up liking this guys take in the song more than the actual song?
It could happen

7:30 in the morning and between the song and your comment, I am laughing my ass off in my empty office.theplatypus wrote:If this isn't an actual part of the song I'll be severely disappointed.DaveVedder wrote:So i woke up this morning and all of a sudden remembered the melody of the verse of Getaway.
So i quickly entered the studio and recorded a small preview. Just the verse melody.

Is this as good as the two-chord "Sirens" rendition? If not I'm out, don't want to ruin my first listen to the Bolt.Cleverman wrote:7:30 in the morning and between the song and your comment, I am laughing my ass off in my empty office.theplatypus wrote:If this isn't an actual part of the song I'll be severely disappointed.DaveVedder wrote:So i woke up this morning and all of a sudden remembered the melody of the verse of Getaway.

Thanks, both of you
Yeah this was nice.Sgt. Crackpot wrote:That's nice and bluesy. I like it.DaveVedder wrote:Ok so this time the same melody now on guitar!
I really think it`s pretty close.
And hey it`s just what i had in my head this morning - just for fun!
Will be fun to compare it once the album is out.

Yup. This may well be the function it's meant to serve, I'm just a bit concerned that no one's mentioned that. But they mostly seem to be dead-set against it being on here.dimejinky99 wrote:I think I preferred my initial response (head scratching wtf confusion) upon hearing MYM than anything.
As I said, if the whole thing can grow on me like MYM managed to, I'll be really happy.
SBM is the best original song on the uke record but its inclusion is a strange move.
I'm sure we will all get past that over time.
I'm thinking it'll be a palette cleanser before we go into the final act.
That's what in taking from the reviews so far.
I feel all of this as well. But my attitude is that I want them to make the best album they can with BO'B, if he has to be there, even if the sky is not the limit. If that means light Backspacer plus dark weirdness, we could have an album which is at least interesting and takes longer to digest. And just because half of it's poppy, it doesn't mean it's 'meh' if they've developed the sound from Backspacer a bit further.stupidmop wrote:NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOevenslow wrote: It’s half of the record I really wanted from them (Getaway, My Father’s Son, Infallible, Pendulum, Let The Records Play, Yellow Moon) and half of what you have heard from this band before (Mind Your Manners, Sirens, Lightning Bolt, Sleeping By Myself, Swallowed Whole, Future Days). That latter half would be the logical extension from Backspacer. But that first half is 50% of an incredible record, the record they didn’t make. They could have gone Achtung Baby or Yankee Foxtrot Hotel on us but didn’t. This will be a great record but I already have mixed feelings over what could have been.
see that's the kinda remark that will stick I'm my head while I listened to it for the first time, and it was also the impression I was getting from all the other reviews. It seems half the record will be interesting, but half of it will be a steaming pile of meh.
At least half of it sounds promising, gotta remember we're coming out of backspacer here and I did say I'd be happy with a few good songs....
But if we find out this was an awesome record ruined by what it seems are eds multiple versions of unthought known*..... **shakes fist** and a 80s cock rock power ballad **shakes fist harder**
*when was the last time he wrote an actually interesting song? SOS maybe? But then they buggered it up. People need to stop pandering to his ukulele twiddling schmaltz churning out person. Could never write a good album without him my ass...
I'm only ranting because I haven't had my coffee yet, excuse me.
BO'B has said that he pushed to have it on there.dimejinky99 wrote:Just a thought, bear in mind, eds had two years of playing SBM live. I'd hazard a guess it was probably the band wanted it on there, not him. But we'll never know.
