JJ usually does go for fan friendly, even if fans don’t always appreciate his work (Star Trek(.
This is true. But I have a feeling he’s gonna build off what Rians done and break out of his own mold a little and so something different than we expect from him.

Yes. Especially if Han Solo isn't a huge hit.
On the other hand, TLJ is a middle chapter. The fan friendly option for the final chapter isn't really retconning Rey's parents (especially because, with a fickle internet crowd, you'll piss off just as many people for making the change). If they stick the landing and wrap things up in a way that feels satisfying they'll be fine
If the performances are good, the action is fun, and at the end of this movie
A: The rebellion wins
B: The kylo/rey relationship closes in a satisfying way
Disney will be happy

Disney will be happy even if it does neither of those things, provided it makes them a bunch of money

Yes. But also money in the future by keeping up the SW popularity for future movies, toys and theme parks.

Oh, no doubt. I was just thinking in terms of pre-game jitters.

It was cool to see Luke talking about Darth Plagueis.

I remember he mentioned Darth Sidious (Emperor/Palpatine).

He mentions how the first sith was created by the jedi. And mentions Plagueis.

Apparently not. There are folks I know "in the business" who are talking about how pissed Disney is about TLJ's backlash and there's even (allegedly) doubt in Rian's trilogy now. These people seem to think it's entirely possible that Disney will take Rain's trilogy away from him.
I think that sounds like complete garbage and absolutely stupidity. But here we are.

Something I haven't been following much, how upset is the general public about the Last Jedi? It seems like it is a very vocal minority.

The overwhelming majority like to love it. There is a large vocal minority that wants to start petitions to have it removed from the Star Wars canon and is trolling the internet and creating fake accounts so that the Rotten Tomatoes score is super low.

How would a general public reaction look like?

So, a very vocal minority with a lot of time on their hands? Got it.

I genuinely think a lot of people hate it. Which makes a lot of sense to me.

Like anything, there are people that genuinely hate it. Of course there are. There's never been a piece of art that was universally accepted by all. And there never will be. Especially in the "internet-my-opinion-is-better-than-yours-you-are-an-idiot-hear-me-scream-fuck-you" age.

It's anecdotal for sure, but I haven't met a single person IRL who hated it. Some people were lukewarm about it, but the response seems to be mostly positive. Probably talked to about 50 or so people about it.

Like anything else on the internet, the people that hate it are the loudest. I don't know a single "real life" person who hated the movie. I know some people who thought parts were weird. I know some that like R1 and TFA better. But outside of the internet, I haven't talked to anyone who actually hates the movie.
The anonymity of the internet and the just the very nature of it, allows people to be aggressively angry toward the film.
And that sucks because there are those that hated the movie and have valid criticisms but they just get swept up with the trolls and haters.

Agreed. I feel like we've had some good discussions in this thread, but other places online? Yeesh.

Most I have talked to have been lukewarm, a few loved it, and most aren’t interested in seeing it at all. Still I think imdb is a good judge. Massive community, and the reviews tell the story.
