I with Stip on this one. I'm fine if there are just a few good songs per album at this point. I don't think I would like the newest songs any better with different production. I suppose if you had 1993 versions of these songs they would be much better. They would probably sound very different but the current version of the band is what they is.

I think I'd agree with that viewpoint exactly. I think it's good through Pendulum, than falls off besides SBM and especially Yellow Moon.

Your wavering support of Lightning Bolt is not unlike that of the harmless run in the Lightning Bolt lead up thread.

You know, that's 2 of 4 songs. you make it sound like there's still 8 tracks to get through :)

He has. But that's ok cos he needs occasional reminding that we are allowed change our minds. Plus he has no idea about how I feel about No Code or Yield.

SPB and Yellow Moon are lovely. Let the records play and future days should have never gotten past the "hey check this out" phase, and the production on the record is pretty brutal in that it doesnt feel like a fucking bad playing music together.

But everythin else I really enjoy. Much more to sink your teeth into than Backspacer with a little more musical depth and better stories/ideas.

I still wouldn't think about putting his near the 91-2002 output though.

The whole point was that you claimed not to have changed your mind!

Changing your mind is great; recommended in many circumstances.

Also true. I don't keep track of mine or others positions on things generally.

Hey, you hear ed is rumoured to be playing with Bruce in Melbourne?
They better bring our guy too. Drive all night hasn't appeared yet

I feel like I'm on an island when I say "I love Future Days". Sure, it's a little over-produced, but the lyrics are beautiful and it just feels like such a nice album closer to me.

I actually think it's the little things that make Future Days listenable, the ridiculous piano intro aside. The violin in that song, as well as the guitar arpeggios in the second verse, I find them really effective. They actually take my mind off the fact that I think, overall, the song's kind of maudlin and unimpressive.

My pals tell me future days sounded great last night though ed played it a little faster than the record version apparently.

It is totally maudlin. I agree that the little things color in the song nicely. The violin is maybe my favorite part besides the bridge (which I really like). I also think Eddie sounds good. But Future Days is ONLY going to work if you are in the mood for a nice heaping dose of sugary cheese, which it unapologetically embraces. We even get a warning with the piano intro.

I think right now, my LB ranking goes:

Pendulum
Sirens
Lightning Bolt
Swallowed Whole
Yellow Moon
Infallible
Future Days
Sleeping By Myself
Getaway
My Father's Son
Mind Your Manners
Let the Records Play

Glad to see that most people seem to agree that Pendulum is a solid 5. Were there any consensus 5's on BS?

I'll defend some songs that aren't popular (like The Fixer) as flat out really good songs. Future Days is a guilty pleasure, but I have to hope it was written that way--if you can write a guilty pleasure unironically.

There were not. The End, Force of Nature, Johnny Guitar, Got Some, and Unthought Known were the songs most likely to have really strong defenders, but plenty of people hated almost all of those songs too. Nothing close to a consensus.
