The other night I watched a Canadian survival thriller/horror movie called Backcountry. Rough around the edges, but intense as fuck at times. Interesting movie. I wonder if Dev's seen it.

Last night I rewatched Saving Private Ryan for the first time since I was a teenager. Man, what an incredible movie. Aesthetically and viscerally, that thing is a powerhouse. I think it's right up there with Stagecoach in terms of films that revolutionized their genre.

i think i've seen it in the last 5-6 years, but i could go for a saving private ryan rewatch as well

the German POW they set free who later kills Tom Hanks before being shot by Jeremy Davies. Not sure what that's supposed to mean. Feels weird and out of place in such a compassionate film.

re: your spoiler, I thought it was just to show the struggle that every man fighting in those conditions faced. I was shown compassion by the enemy, but does that then trump my duty to my orders and country? It is enough to tear someone apart.

I agree it was a little clunky, but nonetheless that is what I got out of it.

I did the stay-at-home dad deal today, so I watched two documentaries: Exit Through the Gift Shop and Tales of the Grim Sleeper. The former was okay, but a little too cute and clever about its message (as most of Banksy's work is); the latter, though, was horrifying--in the same was that Making A Murderer is horrifying, but this time on the side of the victims.

starting tomorrow the cheap theater is going to have:

bridge of spies
spectre
the martian
the intern
in the heart of the sea

i don't care that much about seeing in the heart of the sea, but i'd give it a shot if someone else were interested

Spectre and The Intern are good. ITHOTS sucks.

i lied above...the intern and the martian have actually been there the past week...i had thought about seeing the intern after work today since it starts 10 minutes after i get off, and the theater is a mile away

Haven't seen BOS yet. I love Spielberg, but haven't been impressed with his recent output. Still, kinda bummed I missed that one in theaters.
