I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

Great flick. This and Juice are my two favorite from this genre.
Love both of them. And New Jack City.

boyz in the hood hits me hard...i caught the last fifteen minutes or so the other day, but it played again yesterday so i recorded it

My absolute favorite "in the hood" movie.

Kane and O Dog.

Sharif: What's up, black man?
Caine: Coolin'. Man, why you got that goddamn hood on your head, lookin' like the Grim Reaper?
Sharif: It's cold out here, my brother. You know us black folks not used to this cold air. We a tropical people, you understand? Let them Europeans deal with this madness.
Caine: Then why your tropical ass sittin' on the goddamn cooler?
Sharif: To keep you fools from drinking this poison. That's why.
Caine: Man, you better get your Shelenkem-Shilom ass up off this box and pass me a motherfuckin' brew.

I'd give Baby Boy a slight edge, but yeah, I love Menace too.

lol. I think it's essentially an Oscar-friendly version of Menace. Sentimental, didactic, sensationalized, and very poorly executed on every level.

Though LV's criticism of Boyz is fair -- it is overly sentimental at times. I still like it.
i haven't seen menace, and yeah i can see where someone thinks it comes off overly sentimental, but it doesn't bother me

When I was at USC we would watch/quote Menace II Society ad nauseum. Great movie.
