Less than two weeks 'til Houston half marathon. My training has been on and off, so I don't think I'll be setting any PRs this year. Still should be a fun race and a way to kick off momentum for 2024.

2023 mostly sucked for running, but I did have a great race last spring.

I’m going to stick with a goal of 500 miles this year, but average closer to 5 miles each time and run less days per week. Not gonna worry about the pace so much anymore.

That's the best way to enjoy your runs consistently, IMO.

I love the sport as a vehicle to simply disconnect.

11 hard miles in some intense rain and wind. I was testing out a new janji top and some body glide against chaffing ahead of Sunday's race. Happy to report that the gear did the job.

3rd half marathon in as many years. First time to run the Houston race, believe it or not. You couldn't ask for better weather. Crisp, in the 40s, no wind. I paced my sister to her PR and had a great time running with her. I usually run alone, but it was a nice change to spend 13 miles connecting with my sis. When you have someone to talk to, the miles fly by. My brother raced too, his first one. It was so cool to do this with my siblings, especially considering we lost our grandmother over thanksgiving. Good bonding time.

34,000 people ran this race. It could have gone chaotic at the start/finish, but corrals and lines were organized. The food and hangout area post-race was in the massive GRB Convention Center and everyone had plenty of room. Start time was 7:00am but my pace group didn't cross for another 20 minutes afterwards. 2:07 finish for me at a 9:45 pace. My technical "worst" performance in these last three years by a long shot, but this was my favorite race. I went out with no goal and ended up having an awesome time taking it all in.

New post race favorite: a gluttonous dousing of gravy over pancakes, lined with scrambled egg and sausage and rolled up like a taco...all washed down with chocolate milk.

Ha, yes! I must have looked like such a Karen in the food line, but famished race brain is a thing.

Volunteer: Biscuits, pancakes or both?
Me: Just pancakes, thank you!
Volunteer: Gravy on the side?
Me: Here, please *motions to pancakes*
Volunteer: ...
Volunteer: You mean on that sausage?
Me: Nope. Pancakes. Cover them with that gravy goodness!
Volunteer: okayyyy whatever you say!

For sure. The food line was cafeteria style, sponsored by H-E-B grocery.

Scrambled eggs, sausage, biscuits, gravy, all the condiments. Salsa on my eggs and gravy cake protein roll up for yours truly.

After years away from the game, I'm back in! Just signed up for three races this year. Tomorrow NYRR will drop a lot more and I'll snag some of those as well. Going to 9+1 this year so I can run the NYC Marathon next year. :bammer:

Kenya's marathon world record holder Kelvin Kiptum (24) and his coach were killed in a traffic accident on Sunday.

The dude was only 35 seconds away from being the first person to run a marathon in under two hours. There's no way he wouldn't have made that eventually. Fuckin' thing sucks.
