This is not at all what I expected. The singles give such a different impression. This is way folkier than I thought and I love that Pearl Jam. Im so pleasantly surprised.

My favorite songs were Wreckage, Waiting for Stevie, Something Special, and Got to Give

But um….is eddies marriage ok? I was very taken aback by how many songs seem to be about breaking up with a long love. I expected a political album but it seemed to be a breakup album? It was very strange. Do we not know something ?

Including
Spoiler: show
both the opening and closing song
Who cares?
Yeah not interested in his personal life in that way. What were the overtly policies moments. I'm assuming Got to Give and R/R but it's hard to piece together.

Both the singles are so unrepresentative of the album lol and also probably two or the worst songs. I personally would have done got to give as the single.

Dont tease me wease.
i dont know where this album’s ceiling is, but WORST case scenario it would just be a notch behind gigaton
My ears are telling me it's the best since Yield off the phone recordings. You are such a LB fan though that makes you a outlier.

running seems to work much better as a cool down after 3 long anthems then as a stand alone single

I’ve actually still not heard anything other than the title track. I just wanted to get in on the fun

It absolutely works way better within the context of the album. I like it a lot more now.

I still think it’s going to become a necessary discussion topic when this album comes out and people start dissecting it. It seems hard to analyze the song meanings without some speculation. There’s like five songs that made me raise my eyebrow.

Hey all. At the theater. 18 mins to go. Had 3 glasses of wine :)

Owner of the theater told me they got a 10min preview. Total darkness first half.

He confirmed there is no disc of any kind. Some digital file and when you play it it checks against a license of some sort.

He said his son is going to crank it up for us.

Haven't heard the phone "leak".

STOKED!

Overall - with only a few exceptions - the lyrics on this record are a total bummer.

That would be an interesting turn if he framed Chris’s suicide like the loss of a long relationship. Though some of the lyrics (setting sun especially) seem too direct to not be about the fracturing of a long relationship he thought would last forever. Whether he’s writing about his personal experience or just telling a story though who knows ?
