Woke up for a normal day but goddamn did I not want to run in the dark again. It would have been light by the time I finished but simply wasn't feeling it. Hit the pavement around 9am, little brisk with some wind but it felt comfortable. The rest day before a long run is definitely a solid move for me at this juncture. I should work in another water drop sometime after mile fourteen though but even without it I still felt like I could plug along after twenty. Legs felt good but I could tell the dehydration and plain ol' work was taking a toll. Not sure what the wall thing is but today felt good... four weeks til Philly and today was a new half-marathon PR.

Tough weekend. 10 tempo miles in 68 minutes on Saturday. Then 20 miles in swirling 30 to 35 mph winds with my youngest in the running stroller on Sunday. Finished in 2:46. :/

10-mile tempo run in 67 minutes Saturday on the canal, then 22 on the First Water Trail in the Superstitions on Sunday. Felt fast and nimble. Took a dip in a stream near my turnaround spot. Saw some rattlers and a herd of Javelina. Left my watch in the car, but I figure it took me ~2:50 include the swim. Beautiful run.

10-mile canal run yesterday in 70 minutes.

Saw my reflection in a window this morning while on my Saturday morning tempo run. I really, REALLY should not be running without a shirt. Gross.

Lots of sun-damaged, old guy skin that's lost all of its elasticity. Just think Mr. Burns in short shorts and New Balance.

Today did not go as planned at all. Had to start later and just wasn't feeling it but of course I set out for my last longer distance before Philly; the first thirteen I really can't complain about and my friends put out a box of Gels along with my water which was cool to see. But I was a retard and felt that the sixish miles between that water stop and the next with Bloks was no prob like always. I never really recovered and my legs have not felt like this since I started training, I was far more dehydrated than I thought and that seems to be an utter bane for me. I took two days off feeling like shit with a sinus infection and I'm sure that was just two further steps back.

I'm pissed off... I'm really fuckin' pissed off actually; Philly is two weeks out and I was supposed to feel better about it, fuck you body.

Chin up, bro!
In my experience you're better off being a little undertrained than overtrained. And judging by this thread, you have a solid base. Let your body rest, then do like 14 the Sunday before your race. Then do a couple of shorties and a tempo run the week of the race. I find a quick tempo run a few days before a race to be a huge confidence booster.

The best race I ever had (sub-8 hour 50 miler), I was sick for a solid 3 weeks before the race.

20 miles in crazy wind again, but no stroller this time. Pushed to finish in under 2:30, but cracked and finished in 2:32.

Thanks a ton man

Took yesterday off from the cycle miles and also running pups at the shelter. Legs still felt spent this morning so there was definitely something else at hand. Play this week by ear and look forward to my half-marathon route this Sunday.

Started my 10-miler at 4 a.m. this morning and pretty much hated every step. Finished in 72 minutes. Probably gonna cut out of work early tomorrow and hit a trail.

My left heel is bugging. Pretty sure it's plantar fasciitis. I limp in the morning and when I've been seated for a while. First mile or two is painful when I run. Anyway, any fixes work for anyone here other than rest? I plan on taking two weeks off, but not until February.

I've gotten plantar fasciitis a few times and I've found the towel trick works best. Just do it while you're watching TV. Also do it for a few minutes before a run.

It's been a good week and a half or so. Did 10 on Saturday, then 17 on Sunday in the McDowells in Fountain Hills. 10 again on Tuesday, then my half marathon route yesterday. Been battling a head cold, so I've eased off the effort a bit. Been finishing my 10-milers in 72 minutes or so. Did yesterday's half marathon in 95. I haven't really done any speed work in about 3 weeks. I hope to remedy that this weekend. All things considered, I feel pretty good about my running.

Ran Monday, yesterday and plan to tomorrow morning, temp has been 33 every day but I've felt pretty good and have kept the pace under my planned pace but nothing crazy. Probably do a few shake out miles Saturday then just spend the rest of the day staying fed and hydrated... check-in is at 3, race is at 7 on Sunday.
