The documentary unprecedented gives some good coverage of the 2000 Florida debacle

Some polling places in Massachusetts used the same (or similar) ballots at the time. My mom worked on Bill Delahunts congressional campaign in the late 90s and was part of his recount team so Florida was a little bit of deja vu when it came to those butterfly punch hole ballots.

So there are white nationalist groups robo-calling in Iowa (for at least a week now), and they're asking voters to vote for Trump. When asked to comment on it, Trump said, "Nothing in this country shocks me. I would disavow it, but nothing in this country shocks me." WTF is with the "would" in there?

Looks like the "establishment" is starting to make some moves to push Jeb out. Seems kinda late to me. Do they really think his 2% or 3% is gonna build momentum for Rubio? As I've been saying for several months now, "electability" isn't really a factor this time around.

Just for funsies, I decided to look back at the beginnings of this thread. It was created on 11/26/2014, and the only candidates mentioned on the first page were Hilary Clinton and Jeb Bush. Reading some old posts, it's not surprising that so many people were cold on Trump in like July/August. In early September, t2b made a lot of posts wondering, "Hey, this might be different..." It's an interesting read.

I'm pretty damn proud of that post in which I first mentioned Huckabee. The Santorum one is OK too, but nothing special. I should have linked to a Dan Savage article or something like that.

I love how we didn't really talk about Jim Webb until he made that comment about killing that Viet Cong. And I'm also very proud that this was the first post to mention Lincoln Chafee: http://forums.theskyiscrape.com/viewtop ... 89#p603289

Looking at that list in retrospect, all the people whining about Hillary's nomination being inevitable should have been pushing for a candidate who could really relate to the plight of the racial minorities that increasingly make up the Democratic base. Clinton, Sanders, and O'Malley all stumbled over that badly and were ripe for the picking if a different candidate was there.

Are you talking about the recent polls that show Trump getting 20+ percent of the black vote and ~30 percent of the Hispanic vote in a match-up against her? There's a shitload of undecideds in that poll and I'd guess about 90% on the undecideds (15% to 19%) would go to her. In terms of numbers and strategy, I think she'd be foolish to make her campaign more "minority-centric."

I'm also guessing she'll trot out Bill more regularly in the general and that will bolster her minority numbers.

No, I didn't even know about that poll, and I agree that it sounds dubious. I was just talking about the Democratic primary. And I'm not sure how Bill would help out, especially with Millennials that may not have the strongest memories of his administration.

Really?! Bill is hugely popular with both blacks and Hispanics. And most Hispanics seem to have forgotten the negative effects of the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act.

Anything for her to bolster the "Hispanic wall" that the GOP will face when running against her is a good move in my opinion and a great long-term strategy for the Dems.

I had a somewhat random thought upon seeing that picture Burt posted. Should Trump win the nomination, Democrats shouldn't let their guard down, and prepare for a "Shy Tory" phenomenon like we saw in the UK election last year. I bet there are plenty of Republican-leaning voters who will publicly be disgusted by Trump, but when it comes to the ballot box they'll still hold their noses and vote for him for the general benefits they see of voting Republican. Something like this:
