It's good. The Great Albums podcast on PJ isn't as good. It's a slog.

I'll avoid that then. :haha:

It's just derivative, basic facts are missed and it's 2 hours long for each episode.

Listened to the first episode of S-Town today. Recommended, but I do wish they had visual supplementals on their website like Serial, TANIS, Crimetown, and other podcasts have--there are lots of rich descriptions, and they come across well aurally, but I'd love to see some of these things, too.

I unsubscribed from Crimetown about ten eps in. It was fine, I just realized I didn't really care. I didn't feel like there was a solid through-line between all the characters and stories for me to hold onto, which may have contributed to my apathy.

I can see that--I thought the Buddy Cianci stuff was absolutely riveting, but the mob-only stuff hasn't really held my attention as well. I think the fact that I've lived in RI for 11 years now has helped keep it interesting for me.

Yes, I wouldn't fault anyone for being into it. I feel like there are good stories in there, they're just not melded together into one narrative. They're sort of just throwing spaghetti against the wall. wop. wop. wop.

Unrelated to any specific podcast: the latest update to iTunes has changed the order of the options when you right-click on a podcast feed, and it's fucking maddening. So where it would usually say "Mark All As Played," it now says, "Download." So today I accidentally downloaded every episode of every podcast on my feed...twice.

I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

Three episodes into S-Town; the world of this podcast is gonzo bananas. It's almost as if it's fictional, there are so many layers. I saw someone describe it as a real-world Faulkner story, and that's basically right.

I mean, the fifth wildest thing was:
Spoiler: show
That guy with the bullet in his brain who was just yelling stuff in the background.
The fact that it gets even more gripping than that speaks to how compelling it is.

Totally agree. I'm four episodes in. And holy shit. This thing just keeps getting more and more gonzo. I really love it.

I had the big reveal from the end of episode 2 spoiled for me, but it hasn't hurt my enjoyment one iota.

I Googled "hedge maze Alabama" because I wanted to see if there were pictures of it somewhere and
Spoiler: show
the first picture was a pic of John B's headstone! Come on!

Yeah, that's dumb.

I'm glad I didn't have it spoiled at all for me. But I don't think it would be a deal breaker even if it had. The show has so much more going for it than that one twist. I mean, it's in the second episode. Of course, there's much much more.

S-Town is a mystery show in Alabama, huh? Is S-Town about where lenny has been for the last week and a half?
