Re: What are you currently watching on TV?
Here's what I don't get: some element of this show is a spoof of the primetime soaps that were super popular in the late eighties. But I often feel that the show doesn't transcend that. It just stays at the spoof level. So the bad acting isn't bad in a funny way, it's just excruciatingly annoying or boring, especially the teenagers. And it moves so slow, so it's hard to try to look past the spoofy/silly elements to follow the mystery because it's just the same ground over and over again and it's not even put together in any sort of logical way. It just leans on this spoof thing too much, I honestly don't get what I'm missing

For starters, the mystery is irrelevant. Stop trying to focus on it. Secondly, it's not a spoof.

Then what is it, if not a mystery or a spoof? What's left in the mix?

I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

The first ep of The Idol was intriguing/ridiculous enough for me to tune in again.

I thought The Idol ep 1 was very boring. For all the hype about how provocative it's supposed to be, the most shocking thing about it is how bad an actor The Weeknd is.
Nice to see Hank Azaria though

I thought the first episode of the Idol was pretty boring. It has the aesthetic of an exploitation film at times so I guess they got that right

I’ve been leaning a Baskets rewatch next, but this one has been in the back of my mind. As has Eastbound and Down if I finally spring for Max.dad wrote:doing a parks and rec rewatch.
