Tanaka is going to throw a gem tonight because I'm benching him.

Why do they call it the College World Series? There are only US colleges invited, right? I mean at least in the MLB you can point to Canada and say "World".

It'd be interesting to play against Japan and have it be like the AL/NL games where you adjust the rules for the home teams.

That guy's wearing a red shirt. Seems like an odd choice of outfit for a Yankee fan on a night like this

Built on the MLB tradition of "World Series"

Originally, I don't know, but my best guess is Marketing Hyperbole.

It makes sense in MLB, and not because of Blue Jays. MLB is the premier baseball league in the world. It attracts the top talent in the world. Therefor, the team that wins in that league should be able to call themselves the world champions.

And at the time it was named there was virtually no one else in the world playing baseball.

Can't wait for all the Addison Russell victim blamers to come to his rescue like they did with Patrick Kane.

actually Japans been playing it since the late 1800s. Their pro-leagues since the 1920s. The High School tournament there is HUGE! Nationally televised event. I'd totally love to see the winner of the Japan league take on the MLB winner, but, I just don't see that happening (especially with the WBC around)

But outside of Japan, and the South American countries, yeah no one else was playing it.

Exactly! That would be great, and maybe even help grow the sport.

Not a fan of the replay rule, but has there been plenty of discussion in the past about how completely, totally baseball the technology and execution of the rule is? Three people. Two pairs of headphones. One bulky transmitter machine. Then we wait...

I smile every time I see the umps at work here.

Why would you bench Machado? You ride with him no matter what.
