Starting to think that this story is going to be more about how focusing on one thing too much is your downfall.
Ned’s honor
Robb’s love
The Hound’s revenge
Oberyn’s arrogance
Tywin’s hate of Tyrion
Dany’s revenge

Well it looks like ol’ Bobby Baratheon was right about the Targaryen girl all along.

Not a wink of sleep was had after that.
Such a great episode. My only gripe would be who Cersei and Jaimie went out but fantastic performance from Hedly especially.
One shot earlier as she’s lookihg over the city at drogon flaming all the ballistas and for the first time in the entire series she looks worried if not terrified. Brilliant acting and not a word said.
Need to watch it again.

Dany’s heavily foreshadowed turn to “I will not allow you to use hostages to deter me” and grey worm killing a surrendered soldier in an act of rage and revenge will put this show on the wrong side of history. Critics will trash it mercilessly now.

Wow. People are pissed. The shock!
I think she was always going mad queen. It’s been there since the start.
Can’t wait to rewatch the series with full context and knowingly where she ends up.

Good idea, they just botched the execution. Should have been more gradual than "ok I'm insane now".
It's really amazing how consistently they portray Jon Snow as a complete moron though. From beginning to end, this dude is dumb as shit.

Can’t agree. It’s been really coming to a head with her since the start of the season.
She didn’t just decide in that shot sitting on drogon on the wall.
She decided to burn it when Missendi said Drakarys before her execution.

Re: HBO: Game of Thrones (Song of Ice and Fire)
She said she would burn cities to the ground for the Iron Throne in Season 2. I can maybe throw together some more coherent thoughts on this later, but as someone who has enjoyed last season and this one a bit more than the general watchership, I've found myself defending the show while also conceding some of the missteps along the way. I am on the record 1000 times over that the show has some serious flaws, but I feel like few of them were on display last night--it was a brutal, unappealing episode of TV, but true to the series' heart, and it's set up an unpredictable finale that I cannot wait to watch.

Re: HBO: Game of Thrones (Song of Ice and Fire)
There were plenty of signs early on, and they seemed to be bringing her progression along nicely, but then they seemed to drop it last season, only to bring it back in the last two episodes. Could have been handled so much better than it was.
It also felt like she was just crazy. It wasn't a character driven change IMO. It felt less like a change based on the various things she suffered and more like some random genetic defect.
edit: Maybe I'm being overly harsh because fuck this show for fucking up the Night King.

Re: HBO: Game of Thrones (Song of Ice and Fire)
She has plenty of motivation though. She’s list everyone she trusts.
She distrusts jon and knows he’ll be made take the throne off her.
All her remaining advisors she has no faith I can whatsoever.
She’s been drunk with her sense of destiny since the beginning but now the room is spinning.
It looked to me like she had ordered the unsullied and Dothraki to rape and pillage no mercy.
And didn’t tell jon. But the forces all seemed to have different orders. Job kills one of Their own forces attempting the rape.
That’s right there
Or am I wrong?

Unsullied can't rape and Dothraki just did what comes naturally to them IMO.

Re: HBO: Game of Thrones (Song of Ice and Fire)
This. The scene on the wall of the city was her realizing she had won... that she (not Tyrion or Jon or Varys or Jorah) had the mind and the power to rule and she must not leave a sliver of doubt in her authority or the “game of thrones” will continue forever.dimejinky99 wrote:BurtReynolds wrote:Good idea, they just botched the execution.
