Yeah, this teaser stuff doesn't excite me at all. It feels like they're trying to make a new album a "big deal", as though Joe Public gives two hoots about Pearl Jam - or that's even something worthwhile to aim for.
Can't these guys just do something small, simple and direct?
"Here's our new single, new album is out next month. See you on the road, etc."
i like the imagery and the audio snippet, but the campaign feels like something a 45yo old marketing manager would come up with. "Hey, Instagram is such a huge tool. and AR tools are cool right? Snapchat and things."
man you guys are grumpy.
It's true though, PJ no longer knows their market.
rm is not their market.

Do you think they had any input into this? Back in the day, PJ were very much in full control of their marketing.
i know for a fact they (or at least Jeff, with some influence from Ed) are fully entrenched with the theme, artwork, and packaging. but stuff like this is outside their wheelhouse. if they ran it by the band, they were probably like, "sure, cool". but don't know how involved they are with this level of a campaign.

God, I hope the whole album isn't climate change themed.
There's no way Ed can pull that off without it being exactly this:

if there's a snapchat filter to make you look like a baby, certainly there's a Pro Tools filter to make you sound younger

This would have been fine if they followed it an hour or so later with the new single. Then it would have had a point. Right now we don’t know what they are teasing except presumably that new music is coming at some point in the future. The question is why and in the Internet age you can’t wait days to answer that question. And no mainstream media picked up on it at all so it is predominantly a very extensively orchestrated prank.

i'm sure it's to give everyone time to see and read about it and grow their anticipation. we are a bit of the exception here, waiting hand and foot on a PJ-themed message board. they have to wait for Mr. Manager to come home from work tonight, put the kids down, crack open a Crispy Boy and check out the twitters
