That and the more government mace in the face are both brilliant.

That's one ugly snowman.

So what's the deal with globalism anyway? We (USA) basically created it and now it's driving us crazy that it's working as planned? Or what?

It think what has happened is that globalism shattered the belief in 'American Exceptionalism' and people don't know what to do. When it was sneakers and clothes being off-shored, the population at large didn't care because 1.) those are low class jobs, not for us temporarily embarrassed millionaires, and 2.) other industries (STEM stuff) picked up hiring to offset the losses. Now that advances in technology and education have allowed white collar work to be done cheaper overseas (accounting, design, tech support, computer manufacturing, etc.) and nothing has taken it's place, and let's be honest here, nothing ever will, people are willing to gamble on any chance to get back the jobs while they can.

I wouldn't discount social media here either. Just like it's shown refugees how much better life in the EU is (was), it's given us a window in the life of the 1%ers and the deplorables aren't happy about it.

WTF happens to us when machines are doing 90% of our jobs?

I better hit the prepper thread.

It's not so much that robots are doing the work, it's that technology makes it easier to replace skilled laborers with less skilled laborers, something that we have an overabundance of. Humans are so plentiful that they aren't worth paying anything, yet we don't have enough to spread the wealth worldwide (no we don't, Stip.)

Do we really want those people to vote, though? Imagine how many juggalos would be in that pool.

Guys, if you want me to make this clear, I think Trump is a horrifying disaster of a person and thoroughly unfit for the Presidency and, for all her faults, Clinton is, by an immeasurable amount, the better and more qualified candidate and who I would vote for if I had to make that choice.
This is my worst, most embarrassing post on RM. Yes, even worse than the Backspacer one.

To my discredit, I think I got caught up in the pre-election hysteria as much as anyone else.

Look, I don't know, and it's kind of a moot point anyway, but it was lunacy of me to be so complimentary to Clinton.

The hysterical reactions to Trump's victory have really brought home how foolish I was, I guess.

Trump is hardly my ideal President, I don't think such a thing exists, but he was arguably the better of the two choices on offer.

As I said, it reflects poorly on me that I only say this with the benefit of hindsight.

Virtually everybody I know ranges from moderate centre-left to wild Communist left, so I'll admit I feel a certain responsibility to present a robust alternative when circumstances demand it.

This is called contrarianism, and it is especially prevalent in teenagers

I guess it may seem that way but I strongly disagree, I'm not adopting a view for the sake of being contrary at all.

I think there is a moral responsibility to ensure conservative views get an airing, even if it's something I shirk much too often. Perhaps because I feel as though it's something I'm still working through to some extent - it's only been five or six years since I realised this was something I identified with, it's still a work in progress.
