also, Oscar Isaac perfectly delivers the line when captured and says the "so who speaks first?" joke. Part of me was hoping that his last name would be Antilles.

During the flashback/forward, young Rey shouts Come Back (random PJ reference) and then you hear Ren's voice say "Quiet, girl".
edit: If not Ren then someone with a voice modulator.

Seeing this again next week in Goldclass. Then a third time with the boys a week after that. Not sure if I'll see it again at the movies, might need a break for a little while.

Seeing this for the second time tonight with dad, brother, and uncle. First time for them, they're all really excited
The problem with comparing this one to the OT is that its currently an unfair comparison. People have had 30+ years to grow close to those films, to romanticize them, to forget the many flaws over time. This is what keeps getting forgotten - the OT had plenty of flaws. They're far from perfect films, and the flaws of the new film are no bigger/worse than the problems that the OT has.
We've had three days with the new film. And its the opening film of a new trilogy. We need to wait until we've had all three films before we can adequately judge its overall merit in the Star Wars universe.
It's been ten years since the last film of the prequel trilogy, and enough time has passed that we can conclude with confidence that they're generally the drizzling shits.
Let's close the thread now, and come back in at least ten years and see how this has held up.

Reading that there was a scene deleted of Chewie and leia are consoling each other over hans death and someone, possibly a droid, interrupts them and Chewie rips their arm off, but it got edited cos Disney.

Damn it! Well, The Phantom Menace was shitloads more Disney-esque than TFA, so it's not all bad.dimejinky99 wrote:Reading that there was a scene deleted of Chewie and leia are consoling each other over hans death and someone, possibly a droid, interrupts them and Chewie rips their arm off, but it got edited cos Disney.

Re: STAR WARS SPOILER THREAD. SPOILERS WITHIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm going to see this for a second time. There's still so much meat left on the bone. The intro of these force back force forward dream scenes was a brilliant move to avoid cheesy flashbacks/forwards and I need to learn more and dissect.
I also thought it was great that they flipped Ren in that he's trying to avoid the temptation of the light vs. the dark. Simple, yet brilliant in that it's a new element that's acceptable to me in the new trilogy.
If anything, I think they could have done without much of the nods back to the old characters/films/moments. The new folks, Rey, Ren, Finn, Poe were strong enough on their own.
My big burning question: Is Finn a Jedi? Does he have the force? I know it was misdirection, but it seemed like he could feel the force. Need to watch again.

From a few pages back - I really liked the voice modulation on Kylo. There was a brittleness and thin layer of need to it compared to Vader which was appropriate given the character.

Yeah, looking forward to the 2D tonight.
I agree about Ren's voice. It fit perfectly, and I loved that he had no real need for the mask other than he obviously just wants to appear more like Vader.

Tbh I've come completely 180 on Kylo. I love pretty much everythin about him now, the way he moves when he's walking, the tempestuous bursts of outrage, which I think he's forcing somehow thinking it'll make him more dark side. (Slashing up the terminal wall then turning 'is there anything else?' And the voice modulator thing works great with him.
They setting him up perfectly.

Re: STAR WARS SPOILER THREAD. SPOILERS WITHIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was fine with Ren's voice and mask once we learned that he's a Vader wannna be. It was a brilliant move as it allowed us another dark villain with some familiar stuff going on, but we can excuse it, because again, Ren is very young and needs to become stronger with the dark side, so he's obviously not going to have everything down pat at this age.
Also, my favorite scene had to be when the lightsaber finds Rey and Ren speaks of the force and in that moment it all clicks for her.

The most exciting thing is that we're probably going to be treated to Ren coming back stronger than ever and totally more in tune with the Dark Side of the Force. He'll probably turn up in the next film for another battle with Ren and absolutely kick the shit out of her.

Re: STAR WARS SPOILER THREAD. SPOILERS WITHIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He actually has the same struggle as Anakin / Vader. He's not naturally evil but wants to be. He idolises Vader not Anakin hence the idolatry. 'I'll finish what you started'
I never cheer for the bad guys but from a character development PoV I'm super excited to see his conflict develop and see where he goes.
They can't redeem him not after killing Han but then again they're making everything rhyme with the Ot so possibly he will be redeemed.
