Cops have been working hard to kill as many Black men as they can. It was going to show up in the stats eventually.

I got this one wrong. I assumed he unintentionally came into contact with a protest blocking the road and trying to prevent cars from using the roadway.

Lots of lessons:

Don't voluntarily give up the contents of your phone

Don't send traceable communications about wanting to shoot people

Open carry is dumb

Claiming distracted driving is not a useful way to diffuse the pedestrians perception that you intentionally menaced them

Walking in the street unnecessarily is a bad idea

(Speculative) comb overs don't help in criminal cases

Even if you are innocent, always this.

And it's a huge mistake for republicans like Abbott to treat this like the Rittenhouse case. Society must find a way to turn down the volume on protests and quick.

For Abbot it's free red meat. He can't pardon anyone without getting a referral from the Parole and Pardon board, and there's no way this guy will meet the criteria so at the end of the day nothing is going to happen.

Are other governors similarly constrained in using their pardon powers?

Oh, is this the guy that Abbott is wanting to pardon? Good ol' Texas.

Lawyers who practice in this area are pretty bullish on this guy's appeal.

The decedents prior bad acts (repeatedly stopping cars to menace them) would not be admissible except the state had witnesses claim that they didn't have a habit of stopping cars during their previous protests.
