Oh.

It still doesn't feel very Vedder-esque (to me, anyway) but I guess we'll find out in due course.
What non-Ed songs does Ed play guitar on? I can't think of one?
Come Back, bits of Present Tense.
He has a writing credit on Come Back. That leaves one song and a high probability that he wrote this one.
I may be mistaken but I'm fairly sure it's only for the lyrics and McCready wrote the music entirely.

I'd need the CD liner notes to check, though; neither the Pearl Jam site nor Wikipedia are reliable in regards to writing credits.

I would guess Ed had a major part in the music writing. I don't get why he would play the main guitar in the intro if he had no input into the music.

I don't get why he'd play guitar at all in this band, but stranger things have happened!

I listened to this song several times over last night. I don't know if it's just pre-album excitement, but I dig it. Let's hope for some power in the studio. On the evidence of MYM, there's a lot riding on Ed's vocal. I'd like the band to turn up on this one as well but you can't have everything, right?

He really added to the sound of the band live with his guitar playing up until the 2005 tour. His guitar playing in 2000 was pretty top-notch for the most part and his tone was killer for his style. It started to die off a bit in 2003 but was still awesome. From 2005 onward his guitar playing and tone have been absolute, pure shite. I really wish he'd hang up the guitar completely at shows.

I quite like mental Ed with no guitar. He really shows up on MYM performances, even if they're a bit goofy because he's older. I'd rather have goofy enthusiasm than an over-thick wall of guitars. It seems as if Stone, particularly, has shrunk back since Ed was playing guitar. I think he has a 'whatever' attitude towards it, which is good for him. But if Ed would be a bit more humble about everything (yeah right), Stone would have space to shine more. This is all pointless speculation of course.

Also, something on Stone's face during this performance says "I wrote this and I'm fucking proud of it." But take that FWIW, because Ed's "fuck!" suggests quite a lot of ownership.

Welp, mistaken I am.

It is indeed Vedder/McCready.

This about as good verification as you can get:

While a Western guitar motif lost on the swings drum bass fusion, get your own thoughts into the subconscious often forgotten. "Pendulum" is a sweeping soul from the ballast.

There isn't a shred of a chance that this song won't have a fadeout, is there?

i worry about that because the end is so good.

I also really dig whatever stone is playing during the l-bolt chorus. easy to miss because of the l-bolt. My expectations for this song continue to rise. The crappy live version is now in regular rotation

I'm prepared to hear the fadeout. On the live version, they do the generic KA-BLAAAM! ending, rather than a more rehearsed and interesting one, suggesting it doesn't have an ending as such. Have they done the generic rocktastic ending on an actual record before? Does 'Alive' have one?

Anyway, even if it does have a fadeout, it's not a dealbreaker if it's a decent transition into the next song.

it's not. Life wasted is still one of my favorite songs. I just think they're annoying and I would like LW even more if it didn't have the fade out.

I can imagine hearing Eddie repeat 'She's a Lightning Bolt' at the end while the song fades out. He seems to improvise a little bit at the end of the live version which would make a fadeout even likelier.

Yup. On the bright side, at least it means we should get less of Ed's AC/DC lightning bolts and hee-hees.

I dreamt about this song last night and the studio version was much slower. Matt was doing more tribal rhythms than the Tom abuse I remember. It was moodier too. But the chorus still cam out like a poor TNT.

All very strange considering I haven't heard this track more than 3 times and not since July.

To me it really sounds similar to the live version, no big surprise here. Not my favorite song, but the production sounds nice.
It's got an awful fade out at the end & a guitar solo in between. But you know the rest

I bet those fade out were also BoB's idea all along.
Now I hate him as a person too.

Everyone talks about Life Wasted when it comes to fade outs - but what about Corduroy? Daughter? WMA? Rats? People acted like LW was the first fade out by Pearl Jam. Weird.

Come on, Backspacer is not the first time PJ faded out a song.
