Re: Eddie Vedder - Earthling
two listens in and i like it a lot. Not only musically but yeah both the bridge and outro are very cool but also the chorus is fucking awesome.
I agree with the production being very poppy but its also good...i mean these songs sound great.
As for the lyrics, well i love them. Very emotional and not cheese at all. The last part with the fuck yous...i love that.

this is what ive been missing...the passion, the anger, the rage.
let's be honest with ourselves, pearl jam have essentially become a band of bitch pussies in the last 15 years.
but this song absolutely fucking shreds and destroys. eddie def re-staking his claim to be the greatest singer of all time.
it's safe to say this album is gonna slither out a mountain-high level of excrement over fagaton

Ed's voice sounds really great, almost flawless agan. The song itself could be a Binaural B-Side. I didn't love the first two singles, but if the other 10 are this good then maybe the record will be Gigaton 1.5 as we wait for Gigaton 2.

I gotta listen to the new single again. The first listen was not particularly great. Good. Best of the three, it still felt in the first instance like coasting. I also listened to it in between the end of Wise Up Ghost and the Painted Shield song, which rips. So I gotta pull it out of that context and give it its own time.

These are the worst parts of the song for me. Like a lot of stuff he does, they just feel like he shoehorned them in and there’s zero tie in or cohesion (the bridge especially — it’s just awful).Strat wrote:Bridge is wild and outro is fantastic. Song takes a couple interesting turns.

I’m digging it….
for me. Between the guitar tone, the bridge, and that outro… can’t help but think of the 80s (a little).
Compared to ITW and the Uke album - seems like he’s written/created songs for a full band on this one.
Kinda interesting to hear an EV tune handled outside of PJ. Wondering if it’s easier or harder for him changing things up with a different set of artists...(assuming it’s a good thing).

They teased a new single, coming out 1/28, on an IG live stream yesterday. There’s a Painted Shield Thread in “Other Bands” that’s discussing. The audio quality is poor, especially on vocals, but the band sounds great on it.Huell wrote:Which Painted Shield song?

Re: Eddie Vedder - Earthling
Didn't EV say that he lost his actual brother in the past couple of years? I don't think he's singing about CC.B wrote:You more or less nailed it.Jorge wrote:He was my brother
And he now is dead
And his eyes were blue
And for a spell in the 90s
he had a really thin mustache,
the kind that made him look
a bit like John Waters
Not a bad tune, but I'm not loving the glossy production.

I don't mind the song, but the production is all wrong. Need some good Binaural-era moodiness to it. I don't know how you achieve that because I'm not smart, but that's my take.

I would prefer a different production maybe, but this is well done guys. It sounds good, and yes there is an 80s vibe in the three songs, so im guessing the album is going to have that sound.
Listened four times and im really liking it.

Actually sounds great on headphones.
I dig this song.
Also really love Chad Smith here. I can picture his drum set on the verge of toppling over with the way he hits those things.
