I'd assume that, since longer tours unfold over such a lengthy period of time and since most people only experience shorter ones in retrospect (as materials become available online or whatever), it just takes a long time for an era's "personality" to get properly sussed.

But I'm not really a part of the crowd on this one, so I don't know.

Unless I'm high, but since that time I haven't heard a ton about it. That's probably b/c people round these parts love to generalize that they've been shit since Riot Act. 2005 is inconvenient for that argument.

Until now, for some reason. It's all part of the ever-expanding "they haven't been really good since..." thing that will ten years from now include the 2013 LB tour.

it gets skipped over in the pearl jam has sucked since Binaural and/or Riot Act rant, but when people are actually having serious conversations about the live shows 2005 and 2006 are both spoken of pretty highly.

I think the Binaural/Riot Act rant has to do with their creative output, not their live performances

This is possible and I've been thinking of it a bit more lately. I'm often going on about how comparatively simplistic and crude Matt's playing has been in recent years, compared to earlier years when he killed it, both live and on record. I watched that vid from 2005 put up here yesterday, and I was reminded that a lot of the recent simplification of his playing must be deliberate, because he's not getting any younger, and the difference is so noticeable. On that basis I can give him a break about it, I guess. Begrudgingly.

Matt Cameron peaked early in PJ. Certainly.







Although, I could argue that In the Moonlight was his pinnacle with the band. At least in terms of contribution to the band,

Lets stop ragging on MC and start figuring out why the Fuck ed does not use the Shecter anymore. I hate his guitar setup now and he's been using it for 8 years. Worst.

I wonder if Ed has taken a more subdued/clean guitar tone to make space for Stone. His setup during the 2000 tour made it hard for Stone's stuff to break the surface, at least to my ears.

I think he just has a cleaner guitar tone now because he's a wuss. I'm not sure Stone is any more prominent because of it, certainly not on S/T or BS.

So do we all agree that Mike, Jeff & Stone still meet our performance and equipment expectations? What about Boom?

That Schecter is awesome. I noticed they still make a similar black tele model and saw it at Guitar Center one day. That guitar is HEAVY...I already have back issues from playing Les Pauls the last 13 years, and that guitar felt heavier than a traditional Les Paul.

I initially liked Ed's SG phase during 2003, but that's also when he pulled the gain back on his Hi-Watt amp, and was disappointed that he wasn't making the guitar crunch as much as he had before.

Corduroy live is never the same for me since he changed his sound. I was so accustomed to hearing the intro done with that Schecter/Hi-Watt combination.

The black guitar Ed used in 2000 was my favourite by far. I love how that sounded. I think the guitar he's been using the last few years is terrible because he's quite an aggressive/sloppy guitar player and I think on the bootlegs they always turn Ed up more and it drowns out Stone. It's noticeable at times when all three guitars are being played together, on a song like Unthought Known when it all kicks in before the "Nothing left..." bit. Fucking hate how it sounds most of the time.

Bring back the Binaural era guitar please.

His tele/fender setup is far too jangly. Its completely out of place. The shecter/Hi-watt combo was smooth as butter and somewhat aggressive. Wonderful.

Telecasters can sound plenty warm and full-bodied through the right set-up (like, say, mine) but Vedder's Tele invariably sounds really thin and weak.
