That's perfectly fair, it just seems odd that even the songs you like elicit a negative reaction.

When I say you're going out of your way to be negative, it's in reference to things like "Lightning Bolt contains a song which is good (released after a pointless week-long countdown)". They've released a song that you like, but you have to add the caveat that you don't like the way it was released. You're also making the assumption that the demos are being removed because they could hurt sales of Lightning Bolt, when it would be just as fair to suggest that they're meant to be included on a Lost Dogs type album, in which case their removal would be perfectly justified.
It's perfectly obvious why these songs I like might perpetuate the negative reaction I already had to the stuff I already didn't like because PJ have gone so far downhill. Perfectly obvious. It needs no further explanation and I'd put it to you that you are being needlessly pedantic because you enjoy playing the positive apologist. You know what I mean. Nothing I am saying is a stretch. I was stupidly disappointed and annoyed at the first countdown clock that the news for a tour I couldn't attend because I lived in another country, and that I needed to wait for another week to hear anything else about the album, an album which was almost immediately shown to be lacking in inspiration. You're acting like I'm pulling reasons to be negative out of the air when I'm actually going to great pains to explain them to you. Interpret them as you will but they're as plain as day.

P.S. My speculations about why they're removing tracks from the Internet are no less of a stretch than yours, and there's no reason to jump to the positive conclusion. Well done that you have, but there's no evidence either way. If anything, it's very likely that this is just yet another example of the 10C being absolutely tight and obsessively militant about what they give out.
For the most part, I'm just playing devil's advocate here, particularly with the track-removal-reasoning stuff (which is the whole point... neither reason makes more or less sense, but I'm not latching onto one of them and using it as a reason to be negative/positive).

I also agree that you have plenty of reasons to be negative. The countdown thing, while it didn't bother me, was pretty stupid. It's fair to be disappointed if you haven't liked the last couple albums and feel like the band has been putting out music for commercial rather than artistic purposes. I'm not disagreeing with any of that. My whole argument boils down to one point that I personally don't understand:
It just seems odd that even the songs you like elicit a negative reaction.
That's it. I think it's odd. I'm not saying it's uncalled for or wrong or ridiculous, and I'm certainly not being a positive apologist.

Also, I've not been negative about the new songs themselves. At all. You need to visit other threads than this one to see that. But they've given me a sour feeling about latter day PJ and our new LB songs.

Why is voicing an opinion on a band you care about offensive? This place would be a boring nightmare if we loved everything they put out. Not voicing our concerns and opinions on this band would be worse, because at that point we really wouldn't care anymore.

If you like backspacer and what you've heard from lb, more power to you. But to tell people they're negative because they don't agree.. I say mind your manners.

Paradox of the Week: this whole conversation / argument we're having is very Pit-esque.

That sums it up. It's probably best you either join in, or stop being negative.

It's not a question of being positive or negative. that misses the point. It's not about the truth or lies, blind obedience or willful independence. Just don't be a dick. Be respectful. Remember you are talking to other human beings who may care deeply about what you're discussing. Be critical. Say what is on your mind. But don't be dismissive of what other people care about.

That's it.

the positivity towards these songs is just another opportunity to bash modern day PJ, it's negativity in disguise
Nope, it's definitive proof there is every reason to bash modern day PJ. We were right all along.
Sounds like it's a great reason to pat yourself on the back.
Witty. 1 point to you, 0 to me.
In all seriousness, my initial reaction to Cold Confession has been more positive than anything I've heard from the band on at least the last two albums. I just don't see why the reaction has to be one of such fierce negativity towards the rest of the modern stuff as opposed to simply enjoying the new songs you claim to love.

These were released by accident, and our favourite band's fan club is clamping down on them and taking them off the Internet for fear that their presence in the world will hurt sales of Lightning Bolt. Lightning Bolt contains a song which is good (released after a pointless week-long countdown), another which is embarrassing but endearing if you close your eyes and push (LB), and a pretty cute but ultimately forgettable little acoustic piece of romantic schlock. This is what they deliberately decide to release to their 'fans', instead of their truly interesting material which they still write, but they discard.

Now remind me, what is there to 'love'?
What is embarrassing about Lightning Bolt? I don't like it all that much, but embarrassing?
