Re: Anybody want a Corona?
That article said a lot about what “doesn’t work” and ends with what the “real science” says which is (Quoted from the article):
“ Harvard disease expert Hanage says that the science to date points to the primary risk coming from what he calls the three C’s — close contact, closed spaces and crowds. He says in Japan, where they’ve had few Covid-19 deaths, people are advised to avoid these — not just to wear masks in these situations but to limit them or avoid them altogether. ”
So skip all the Covid rules, as the headline suggests, and just be sure to avoid close contact with people and closed spaces. That’s freedom.

Y'all act like this shit is spreading because "the rules are confusing" or "masks don't work."
This shit is spreading because people are still having weddings and baby showers and lining up to go bars. All of these types of things were happening in Austin this past weekend, people just not giving a shit. Americans are dying because a lot of people refuse to be inconvenienced or change anything about their behavior. They just don't care.

Orpheus! They told us for two whole weeks 9 months ago that masks probably don't work. Which is it? Do they work or don't they? How are we supposed to know?Orpheus wrote:Y'all act like this shit is spreading because "the rules are confusing" or "masks don't work."

Everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here, now, thank you. How are you?

Re: Anybody want a Corona?
The messaging started going off the rails when it politicized. Governments picking winners and losers as they try to keep parts of the economy moving. The government was taking calculated risks with no communications going out about what and why decisions were being made. Just 'these are the rules to keep you safe' even when those rules were co-opted for many reasons they were still presented as science backed rules to keep you safe. So it's not on people who were following the rules that included bars and restaurants open, or even liquor stores open during our tightest restrictions.B wrote:Orpheus! The blame lies at every level of government that was not prepared, didn't get up to speed and have had some of the worst and most inconsistent messaging possible.

I’m not sure what people are confused about. Yea there was a brief moment questioning the validity of masks early on but for damn near 8 months now it’s been “wear masks, don’t gather”
It’s not the messaging. It’s people 1) not caring and 2) being burnt out on it.

Re: Anybody want a Corona?
There's lots to be confused about. What are essential services? What does border closures mean? If bars and restaurants are allowed to be open, does that mean they're safe? Does the government want us to follow their legislated rules or other non-legislated rules (stay home, keep as small a bubble as possible)? If business activity X is deemed safe and legal, why isn't business activity Y that seems to have the same risk profile? Are masks required outside? Are socially distanced get togethers safe when outdoors? When indoors?Strat wrote:I’m not sure what people are confused about. I mean, you're right, every state, county, city, and neighborhood have their own rules.surfndestroy wrote:There's lots to be confused about. What are essential services? This is the question that drives me bonkers. NO business is safe. Some are safer than others. Some are more essential than others. I've seen people ask why grocery stores can be open but record stores can't. Because you won't starve to death in the absence of records, asshole.

Why then allow a delivery or purchase of anything other than food and water?Rob wrote:The record store owners might?B wrote:I mean, you're right, every state, county, city, and neighborhood have their own rules.surfndestroy wrote:There's lots to be confused about.
