Re: Election 2020
I have absolutely zero problem with Biden and im actually quite excited he is my president and happy he won. Im also not going to be putting up thousands of biden flags and kissing his ass at every turn because we're not a fucking cult.
I hope he leads from just left of center yet has an aggressive climate action plan.

False. Donald Trump is still your president, and just because the media says Biden won does not make it so.Strat wrote:I have absolutely zero problem with Biden and im actually quite excited he is my president and happy he won. Trump would have won if he hadn't fucked up that first debate. Discuss.

Not sure about that. Now if the Pfizer vaccine announcement came out a week ago...BurtReynolds wrote:Trump would have won if he hadn't fucked up that first debate. Discuss.

I think the first debate fired up his base, if anything.

I was pretty sure for 4 years that if Comey hadn't made that Clinton investigation announcement three days before the election that she would have won. I also thought that if you gave the entire nation a mulligan and offered everybody the chance to run the election over a week later that Hillary would have won. Based on the results in this election I think I was probably wrong in both of those assumptions.

Unless massive corporations make sacrifices nothing has a chance. I think the biggest possible sign this was always going to be the result was that Trump's electoral strategy worked and it still wasn't enough to win. He did do what his campaign wanted to do, including boosting turnout and support from non-college rural white males to an even greater degree than four years ago. Even after doing that, he still lost.Jorge wrote:I think the first debate fired up his base, if anything.

Sure, the bottom line matters. Deregulate and let the companies keep more of it. Without profits, these companies would be stuck in the mud.

I think you underestimate the damage that the "socialist" label does to today's democratic party and the number of people who consider that worse than whatever level of "racist" Trump was perceived to be.B wrote:I didn't vote for Biden for his leftist ideals. Re: Election 2020
Actually, it seems like it's kind of the opposite. Trump was so bad to people that it overwhelmed prior ideas or conceptions they have about Democrats in a way it didn't seem to further down the ballot for the GOP as a whole (of course, that's taking it as a given that "SOCIALISM!" is why Democrats lost races they were expected to win).

Re: Election 2020
He barely lost, and that was with covid and with nuclear level hate fueled by the media for four years. I doubt dems will turn out again in those numbers after four years of Biden "managing the decline". The fact that republicans gained in Congress despite democrats being convinced they were literally fighting fascism leaves me to believe the dems situation is much worse than we've been told.digster wrote:I think the biggest possible sign this was always going to be the result was that Trump's electoral strategy worked and it still wasn't enough to win. I get the feeling that many were disappointed and seemed to respond much more positively to the second debate .Jorge wrote:I think the first debate fired up his base, if anything.

They used the Socialist label as much or more than in the past, GOP turned out a record number of voters, and Biden still won. My guess is that what we've seen over the years is true - the "socialism is scary" stuff has an expiration date - basically most (not all) under 45 or 50 these days don't seem swayed by it. Only a matter of time before there aren't enough Boomers and older Xers to make this argument work. I kind of think we're already there. It may work with some Hispanics down south for a while more, especially immigrants, but why wouldn't America eventually join the rest of the free world and drop the Commie hysteria?
Already been thinking this for days. Dems didn't really need an inspiring candidate this time, they had Trump to keep everyone at fever pitch.BurtReynolds wrote:I doubt dems will turn out again in those numbers after four years of Biden "managing the decline".
