Their latest episode is about clone wars.

I’m diving back into that tomorrow head first.

But Palpatine was the endpoint for Lucas had he made the sequel trilogy

Lucas had "enough material for three earlier films and three later films, to make a total of nine, and there were outlined materials certainly for a later three that culminated with this big clash with the Emperor in Episode IX."

Having the main hero turn out to be Palpatines granddaughter and be the one that actually, truly be the one that brings balance to the Force is NOT what Lucas had in mind. By making these choices, the whole theme of it being the Skywalker saga shifts to all of it really being about the Palpatine bloodline. The Skywalkers are relegated to being nothing more than tools in the overarching story that has become Palpatine’s story.

Palpatine could’ve still been the big bad without the decisions placed upon the Rey character thus retaining the Skywalker Saga status, but with how Rey ended up, it irrevocably changed the theme of it all.

By that exact logic it’s luke that brings balance to the force not Vader. He pays with his sacrifice. Ben does with his.
Rey didn’t restore any balance. She died too trying to defeat him. You’ll notice balance isn’t even mentioned in the film.

Who cares. It’s awful and treverows script was better apparently.

Palpatine conquered the galaxy twice, destroyed nearly all of his enemies after turning their greatest hopes against them, lived for over a hundred years, and conquered death itself (and there's no reason he can't do it again). And he had a blast doing it. Ultimately he was only "killed" by his own superior progeny (who ended up taking the name of a bloodline he created), which isn't the worst way to go.

Palpatine conquered the galaxy twice, destroyed nearly all of his enemies after turning their greatest hopes against them, lived for over a hundred years, and conquered death itself (and there's no reason he can't do it again). And he had a blast doing it. Ultimately he was only "killed" by his own superior progeny (who ended up taking the name of a bloodline he created), which isn't the worst way to go.

I'm still really disappointed in the cynicism that seems to have guided this movie's creative path.

Problem: Incels are so mad about Rose Tico existing at all that they hounded Kelly Marie Tran until she left social media. We want their money.
Solution: No more Rose Tico.

Problem: Uptight old dudes and culturally authoritarian governments might throw a fit if Poe is gay. We want their money.
Solution: Here's Poe's ex girlfriend. We'll toss a background kiss in to make ourselves look diversity-brave.

Problem: Some people think Rey is a Mary Sue. We want their money.
Solution: Here's an otherwise completely unnecessary training montage. Also, let's have the movie tell us that Rey won't accept Luke Skywalker's lightsaber until she is worthy of it. That's pretty on the nose.

Problem: The last movie presented a complex, imperfect universe in need of new ideas, new ambitions....a new hope. Boy did that upset some people. We want their-
Solution: Palpatine Skywalker Palpatine Skywalker Palpatine!!!

Problem: Tossing in another Death Star would be incredibly lazy and dumb, but we need the biggest most awesome finisher of all time. For money!

It's more cynical than that because their solutions were for mostly imaginary straw men they themselves concocted to convince themselves the previous movies really weren't that bad. They failed to satisfy anyone because they assumed their critics were just sexist racist incels and not people with valid criticisms.
