As I said, his requested range was a touch low and I wanted to bring him up to a comparable rate. And it surprised him and he seemed quite gracious that I went above what he was asking for.

Now he wants more…

Oh, I forgot to mention he wanted two extra weeks to compare our offer to other offers he may or may not receive from other interviews he has scheduled. We typically give 9 days and he wanted 3 weeks. I don’t have time for him to mull it over for 3 weeks just to tell me he’s going another direction. I’ve already been short in the position for almost 2 months and it takes anywhere from 45 to 90 days to start a provider after they’ve accepted. I gotta get this spot filled.

I’m picturing the guy saying his range was between $45,000 and $50,000, and wease was like, “how about $50,002”

We pay hourly, not salary

That’s pretty funny, tho

wease wrote:So I interviewed a provider yesterday. He liked the center’s location but is closer to a different location. I told him 3-4 times that center had already filled the open position there. Then when we discuss salary, his request was a bit low so I offered him $2 higher than the top of his requested range. He said that was great.

Now, after receiving the offer from our recruiter, he responded to her that he still wants to go to the closer location because I told him it was still open. He also wants more money than what he agreed to yesterday. These fucking people.
Update:

So the night of the deadline, I’ve still not heard anything from this guy. I’m assuming he’s out. Out of the blue, a girl I worked with back at my old place texts me and asks if I knew of any opportunities for providers. I had actually thought of asking her if she’d be interested in prn work but knew she was pulling a lot of OT where she was at but never asked. So I immediately respond to her “as a matter of fact…” End up pretty much hiring her on the spot. Which is great. I’ve known her for years (god, decades at this point) plus she’s a good provider. Wease wins.

Not so fast. Mid morning the next day. He has accepted our offer. Well shit. Now I have hired TWO people for the same position. BUT, I find out there is going to be a transfer out of the center this guy wanted in the first place so all hope isn’t lost. I call him to let him know we can actually move him over to that center and now he doesn’t know if he wants to go there. He may just stay where he’s at. So now I’m waiting for him to make his mind up so I can figure out what to do with the other one I’ve hired. She lives too far away really to go to that center that will have the opening (plus there are other issues there that I don’t want to subject her to) and we have an upcoming opening at a center much closer to her house. I feel like I’ll be able to find somewhere for her pretty easily, but it won’t be one of my centers and I don’t want her to feel like I mislead her. Hopefully this guy will opt for his original preference and it will work out like I want. History suggests that’s not how it will go tho.

From the sounds of it, he’ll be fired within a month anyway

My thoughts are that he’s still gonna be looking and interviewing with other places and he may not even start with us. Even so, I’d like to transfer him to the other center so I won’t have to deal with it if he does quit us.
