I’m honestly not sure. What are the U2 re-recordings? I wasn’t aware of them.
I presume Songs of Surrender? They released 40 reincarnations of their songs in one place, mostly stripped down or with slight lyric changes in the guise that they’ve grown up. It’s a very up and down affair that takes a long time to get through.
Ah, got it! I heard some chatter about this project but thought it sounded like such an ill-gotten premise that my brain apparently discarded it. But to respond to Bi_3's question, no, I don't think this U2 project (assuming this is what he's referring to) is similar to TS's project, apart from the general commonality of old songs being re-recorded. The U2 album seems to be a very deliberate attempt to do something artistically different with these songs, not the same effort to reclaim IP by recreating carbon copies of the originals. And Google reports that U2 own both their masters and publishing rights, so even if there are financial motivations behind this project, I don't think they would be the same ones.

I feel the U2 album was more in vein with them kinda releasing something for the shows this year, letting people know they are around after such a long hiatus than anything else.

RE: Songs of Surrender
The album is a companion to Bono's memoir, Surrender: 40 Songs, One Story (2022), which was structured into 40 chapters titled after U2 songs. Rearranged versions of the songs were first included in the audiobook edition of the memoir, and were performed by Bono during the book's promotional tour.

Was at night one in Minneapolis. She is a once in a generation star. Beatles, Elvis, Michael Jackson, Taylor. That’s the company she’s in. People were losing their minds. The show is wildly entertaining and way too long. I love Folklore and Evermore, but most of those songs do not belong in the show. “Don’t Blame Me” and “Vigilante Shit” were my two favorite performances of the show. Next artist I’ll see in that venue is Pantera opening for Metallica.
