So, who the hell is singing on Smooth Sailing alongside Josh?

I thought it was Jake Shears, but Wikipedia lists him as contributing to Keep your Eyes Peeled only.

It must be one of the other guys in the band, most of who are credited (unspecifically) with backing vocals.

I was actually wondering the same thing on ...I Appear Missing. I really love that kind of wailing falsetto sitting behind the main vocal melody. Might just be another layer with Josh, but it sounds awesome.

EDIT: Referenced the wrong song.

Just received my deluxe edition double LP - beautiful packaging and artwork, can't wait to give it a spin.

A few things I noticed in the booklet:

- 'I Appear Missing' and 'Smooth Sailing' are in switched order in the lyrics pages. Surely this is an oversight and they never considered this as a possible sequencing option...

- All songs listed as lyrics by Josh and music by QOTSA, except 'Fairweather Friends' which is listed as music co-written by Mark Lanegan - which is a surprise, but on reflection FF does contain some Screaming Trees-esque guitar parts.

- Jon Theodore not listed as a band member.

- Not one of the other plethora of guests are mentioned in the liner notes. Simply says 'go to qotsa.com' for extended credits, which don't appear to be posted yet - doesn't seem to be anything past the homepage besides tour dates and merch?

- Contains a scratchie 'lottery ticket' featuring Era Vulgaris' Bulby, with download code for mp3 and FLAC (I hate it when vinyl just comes with mp3 - it's insulting). Here it is pictured on the Matador website:

Thanks for this. I'm not goin to read the lyrics as I know I'll be disappointed in how weak they are, never a Homme strong point.

I think he has pretty good range as a lyricist; I like him best when he's kinda meathead, ironic, darkly, funny.

Misfit Love :heartbeat:

The only track on Era that I don't really care for is into the hollow - sounds like a lullabies reject.

Didn't need to, loved it first time.

The new one... very good, obviously, but it will be a grower. They're pretty eclectic aren't they? Different styles all over the place. So it'll need more listens. But clearly a great band I should've noticed before.

I've heard a lot worse, lyric-wise. Especially from rock bands.

I Appear Missing might be the best thing Josh has ever done. I can't stop listening to it.
