Conversely, HBO Now is streaming A Hard Days Night, which is pretty unwatchable.

The rooftop performance is something else. They look like they are having a blast playing live together.

John’s nuts were downstairs in Yoko’s purse.

Watched this yesterday (and a bit today) and man, it's just lovely.

Like you guys, I'm watching this in spurts when I can. Not far into it yet.

George's face when he gets shocked by the mic is everything.

I love that these sessions started out with no ideas, so they just started having fun playing super old songs.

What's everyone's thoughts on Let it Be vs. Let it Be...Naked?
Let It Be - overproduced, decimates The Long and Winding Road

Let It Be Naked - underproduced and feels too raw for a band whose nuances set them apart from everyone else.

I really wish there was a middle ground that sounded right because I love the songs.
I need to revisit Let it Be Naked. After watching a a chunk of this new doc, and listening to Let it Be with my kid, the next album I went for was actually McCartney's minimal solo effort, McCartney. I've always enjoyed that record and felt like after watching some of these sessions, the context made even more sense within the beatles universe around that time. Knowing LIBN was basically a Paul project, it would be interesting to do a side-by-side.

Also - I feel like you could twist the classic "when you get older, you get more conservative" adage in a way that applies to Paul fandom within the Beatles. 22 year old me would scoff at the notion that Paul's contributions are what I'd be coming back for, over and over again in my late-30s.

Hard disagree. And hearing "who's that lil' old man over there?" followed by "he's very clean" when the krishna was in the room killed me on this new doc.

Just finished episode 2. I love how happy Billy Preston is to be there. Yoko being so close to John literally every second is really starting to wear on me

I heard or read somewhere that John and Yoko suffered a late term miscarriage not that removed from these sessions. Their need to be close to each other makes more sense in that light. The fact that John didn’t leave her at home alone while he went off to make a record makes him seem like a pretty good dude while also acknowledging the guy made a ton of shitty decisions in his personal life. At least he got this one right.

Same deal with the "bed in the studio" during Abbey Road, which was after another miscarriage.

People give John and Yoko a rash of shit for that.

If your wife was home alone in bed and sick and scared, and you had a million dollars, would you leave her there so you could record an album with a bunch of guys who annoy you?

But no, it's a crazy and bad thing.

I have about an hour left in the entire thing and it's amazing.

It's interesting to see how big smoking was back then. Not just the band but everyone around them.

Yeah, I got home at 3am this morning, tired from work and knowing I had to be up at 7, and still managed to fit in an hour of this before finally getting to bed.
