So you're saying you won't think this new one is the greatest thing ever, in time?

I don't even care about The woods, I just want you to come to the dark side on this new album

Well, I guess, since this is the 4th thin I posted about the record since listening to it... what do you think, bro?

I'm always curious how people listen to new material by their favorite bands. I'm a 2-5 listens a week kind of guy (but then again, I can't really listen to music at work).

Yep. See my previous post.
Also, 'snatcher, how divisive do you think The Woods is?

Ok. I'm over my head here in this thread. I thought we were having fun but I don't get that feeling anymore. Peace out.

honestly, i enjoy the songs, but i don't enjoy listening to it. it's way too harsh and gives me a headache. haven't listened to it in probably a decade.

The Center Won't Hold: This starts promising, but it doesn't really deliver on the tension. The "freak out" part at the end is pretty boring.
Hurry On Home: Carrie's Carrieness is dialed up to 10 and I hate it. Also the mix is godawful, all sorts of low-end mud crowding things out.
Reach Out: Say this is kind of fun. The production still bothers me; it's stuck somewhere between claustrophobic and ambient, like they couldn't really decide. "I want to hear more of the air, but also more of the snare. More of the bleeps, but also more guitar." Sounds like it was mixed by committee.
Can I Go On: This sound is fucking awful. I hope it sells enough Levi's so they can get a better mix engineer on the next album.
Restless: I dig this one. The super tight snare sound works well for them, and Carrie's holding back on her vox a lot. I kind of like the lyrics too. This is probably the closest one to the SK of old, so it's no surprise that it's a standout for me.
Ruins: This song is bland and awful.
LOVE: This sounds like Ric Ocasek.
Bad Dance: Generic indie garage pap.
The Future Is Here: This one's ok. Again, I think it would be better if they had just committed to the moodiness the song is trying to impart.
The Dog/The Body: Ugh no.
Broken: This sounds like a goddamn showtune.
Welp, I hate this record. My biggest gripe is that the production feels like a lot of reaching without much success. Shit sounds muddy, and Janet's drums are the most egregious part: Her kick is boomy yet muffled in the mix, her snare is tuned super low, and with so much reverb it doesn't ever cut through the mix. And there are like no drum fills anywhere.
Happy for you guys who are enjoying this one, and I agree that taking risks is all part of being a good artist... But this doesn't feel risky to me at all, it just feels like a bunch of experimentation that should have been left on the cutting room floor. The sound simultaneously lost and neutered.

Also I’d like to take this opportunity to restate my belief that All Hands on the Bad One is their best album front to back.
I'm going to make this their next for me. Thanks.
That's what I went to after The Woods, which was my first.
Do you also like that record? Seems like swan and I have similar S-K tastes, so far. If you also dig it, then that's another big plus for that record for me based on how you've talked about Center.
Oh yea, maybe my favorite. Hard to beat One Beat though.
