I never made it to the theater to see this. Ridiculous. Gonna blame it on the kids. I've avoided almost all spoilers, though I think I know who Rey's father is. Should probably exit this thread again.

So, I've come to terms with a lot of the "Duel of the Fates" stuff. I really thought it was totally BS but it seems like there is more truth to all of it than not. Now, all that to say, that we still don't know what the final product would have been. The "First Draft" already differs dramatically from the "Final Draft" and it would have changed more in filming and more still in editing.

However, I want to say that I think some of the ideas in both drafts are interesting. However, I still think the major themes and especially the stuff with Rey in those two drafts is so much less interesting and so much more problematic than what we got in TROS. Rey's wants, her agency, her decisions, her focus, all of this stuff is defined by others and driven through others in those drafts and that's so boring and belittling to the character. I do like the "Rey From Nowhere" idea and I wish that had stayed. But HOW it's presented in these drafts is unsatisfying and neuters her in such a brutal way.

If anyone here actually cares I highly recommend listening to the ForceCenter Podcast's episode about this. Scrimshaw (as usual) does an amazing job breaking this all down and articulating thoughts (which I really share) on this in a succinct and passionate way (something I'm bad at).

I can safely say if that film had been made it would have gotten even worse backlash than what we got. It’s all bad old EU style awfulness. Oracles and city ships. Gimme a break but that’s terrible.
Some good elements to it such as Finn leading a stormtrooper revolt. Ehhhh that’s all I can remember of it.
But agree with joe. It fucks with Rey completely. And that’s even made worse by her then being nobody.
Completely neuters her character and her arc

I’m fairly confident in saying I would have liked that movie a lot less.

I hate Colin, so im sure the movie would have sucked hard.

BUT....i kinda love this concepts.

Safety Not Guaranteed is the only one of his films that I've seen. And I liked it a lot. It's not mind blowing or anything. But it's good. Still, glad JJ finished this off, even if many people hated it or where disappointed with it. I think it was the right call.

Fast and Furious is really the only franchise I can think of that have done 9 movies with each one being as good as or better than the original.

Bond franchise is another beast. They rebooted the whole thing every 10 years or so.

I agree with the Fast franchise being bigger and better with each movie.

I think 3, 4, and (to a lesser extent) 7 are weak links. The others are all great though. And I assume we’re not including H&S.

Yes, there are. But some of the early ones are among the best.

Star Trek has several good movies. Most better than the first.
