Well, it was fine..the kid is amazing, Brie Larson is good..Joan Allen too (what happened to her face though), and its well shot and paced. But why the fuck did they ruined everything with that over the top score at the end? AWFUL. My god, are americans so stupid they need fuckin violins??? CMON CRY, CRY SOME MORE, CMON WE ARE SHOWING YOU VICTIMS HERE...CMON THIS IS SERIOUS. ITS FUCKIN OSCAR BAIT WE NEED THIS.

Stupid hollywood.

Yeah, we watched this last night and I was memorized by the movie until the last 60-90 seconds. I "get" the scene, but the music overwhelms the emotional impact of it. Kinda pissed me off given how much I loved the first 116 minutes of it.
Finally someone gets it.

I liked Bruno too; I feel like it didn't get a lot of attention when it came out because people basically thought, "Oh we've seen this before with Ali G and Borat." Borat is definitely Baron Cohen at the height of his powers, but Bruno works, too.

I watched Spotlight and Mad Max: FR this week, two that have been on my list for a while. With Spotlight, I want to echo a lot of what trag was talking about above: there's something about the sense of place in the film that resonates very strongly, and if you spent 40,000 hours in church, CCD, and K-12 Catholic school (like me) in the Boston area, then the zombie-like reverence to the "system" and the loyalty expected to the cloth represented in the movie is not fucking exaggerated at all. It was very creepy to see it portrayed on screen so accurately. And while I sort of get some of the criticism that the film is "just" people talking and researching a story, I love films that feature a lot of talking and my entire life is researching paper trails, so I found it gripping.

Mad Max is just not my type of movie, and I knew it ten minutes in, but I watched the whole thing anyway. I can appreciate the craft behind the whole thing, but I didn't feel connected to the characters and the scope of the plot wasn't very gripping. I just don't think I'm a fan of actions movies.

I have no idea why, but I've been on a Planet Of The Apes kick. Watched the first two, and most of the third one so 4. Up next is 'Conquest' which I'm curious to see b/c they say the newer ones, especially 'Rise' is similar.

Say what you will about the originals, but the soundtrack has been great.

The first Apes is an all time favorite. Heston was a boss in that.

Rank the movies that are great even if you only catch ten random minutes on TV:

Die Hard
Planet of the Apes
Temple of Doom
First Blood (Rambo 1)
The Princess Bride
Billy Madison
Meet the Parents
Office Space
Elf
Great list but lets be honest and throw Shawshenk on there or any star wars!
