Anything in the novelizations that doesn't contradict the movie is canon. The movies get final say.

i know it canon, but who really cares? most people wont even read it or know about it.... If its not explained in the movie, who really cares if in the book they put a whole chapter about how Palps came back and how he had a family and ....You had a whole trilogy about it..but nope ..¨to really understand the movie you need to read the book. To really understand the book you need the comics...to really get those comics...¨Fuuuuck that.

Its just poor storytelling and in the case of his return the movie´s explanation was shitty.

I agree with not needing ancillary media and storytelling to fully explain things. The movie should be enough and if one is curious to know more they can explore other stuff.

I happen to think this movie is enough. But I know I'm in the minority on that opinion. Calling the storytelling a disaster or any similar word is a bit hyperbolic for me. And I'm kinda the king of hyperbole!

On September 29, 2018, Lucasfilm Story Group's Matt Martin revealed on his Twitter account that the canon tier system originally established by Leland Chee in the early 2000s is no longer used following the canon reboot.

All Marvel Star Wars comic books and novels beginning with A New Dawn—is considered part of the new canon, on account of the creation of the Lucasfilm Story Group, which currently oversees continuity as a whole.

Major Fucking storytelling fail that we even have to have this conversation about the apparent only one true baddie of Star Wars.

Not really excited to read this book.
The film is sooo packed. Almost too much.
How will a novelization even work?

My pal has an advance copy and he’s four chapters in and says he’s learned so much more and it’s great.

Tried watching it on a streaming site the other night and just dropped out as it got to Han.
I’m not in the mood to invest in a book of it. Although, the last Jedi book really did add a whole lot.

Not long to wait for the next film anyways. It’ll be 2022 before we know it

Right but again what I said is the most accurate. For example, Poe and Rey meet on the novelisation of TFA. But not in the film. So when they meet in screen in TLJ, that's canon regardless of the book.

The novels are canon unless they contradict the films.
