i find myself enjoying no-name standup comedians more

closer to the people

Which makes sense, right? No-names are out there grinding 5 nights a week, workshopping bits, doing crowd work etc.

Established comics don't have that same hunger, because why would they?

Rock's still doin that thing where he repeats damn near every setup line twice in order to fill time.

I did learn that this is kayfabe though... makes it less funny but still good

I don't go as far as Jorge in dislike for stand-up comedy. There are definitely gems and a lot that are watchable if nothing else, but it's easily one of my least favorite forms of comedy.

But recently in my mindless Facebook scrolling i've watched suggested Reels and fell into the algorithm of comedians either in stand-up or podcast clips. And man, some of these are so incredibly unfunny. Theo Vonn, Matt Rife, Trevor Wallace, some other guy, Chris D'Elia, some other other guy, Tom Segura (not really seen enough to say but yeah whatever). Sometimes I just watch them either in hope of catching one that's entertaining or in the hate watch manner, which in turn makes me hate myself. And now I see that a lot of these guys have had podcasts for years.

Part of me thinks I shouldn't judge them on clips alone, but I have no desire to find out otherwise.
