You wouldn’t have said this in 1998.

When's the cutoff date for their coolness? 2003?

Pfft. As if self-titled Foos weren't cool as heck.

'03 was the cutoff for me. I thought One by One was decent on release (wrong, obviously -- it's trash) but that was likely bias and nostalgia talking. Also, kids are stupid.

In Your Honor was legitimately embarrassing and I haven't considered myself a fan since.

Grohl’s career arc reminds me of George Harrison’s - a pretty good songwriter gets temporarily pushed into being a great one by proximity to genius, puts out an album with several years worth of pent up material that makes everyone say holy shit who knew this guy had this in him, then it turns out that’s pretty much all there was and he settles into a career of being himself, playing on other people’s records, and every once in a while putting out a mediocre album of his own.

Can anyone confirm that this Shame x2 song is worth listening to?

This band has always been a bit of an enigma to me. I don’t hate their material- new or old really. But they never quite live up to expectations, and I don’t expect them to blow me away either. I just have a hard time with them because conceptually it seems like it should be fun. I mean, the documentaries are cool in theory. They kitschy fake horror movie seems like fun. The pseudonyms with disco and metal albums tracks with fun and willing to kick the tires. Why don’t I enjoy them more? Hell, I have even seen them 4 times (1997, 2000 opening for RHCP, 2011 on one of their marathon set tours, and 2012 at Global Citizens). I should be a big fan right? Why aren’t I?

They became something different around 2002 I think. I liked some stuff on In Your Honor and loved Wasting Light but after that one it’s all a parody, even the live shows are pretty much the same.

And Dave become so huge it was tiresome.

its worth listening to at least once b/c it doesnt sound like their other singles. it more grove-driven than their stadium rock singles

We could buy all his records and judge for ourselves…

But it’s gonna take money, a whole lot of spending money, it gonna take plenty of money, to do it to do it to do it to do it right.

Is there an option to have a thread permanently marked as read?
