Best of Grunge Tournament 1991-1996
So here is the next major RM tournament. Best of Grunge 1991-1995
I'd like for this to focus on the discography of the big six grunge bands during that stretch
Pearl Jam
Nirvana
Soundgarden
Alice in Chains
Smashing Pumpkins
Stone Temple Pilots
I'm picking 1991-1995 because they were the peak 'grunge' years. There were a lot of great albums from these artists post 1995, but at that point we've really moved past whatever 'grunge' was
I don't want to include bands that were off the radar. I'd like this to be limited to the bands that dominated the grunge discussion of the era, and bands whose discographies we are all largely familiar with. Even if we can't come up with a musical definition to satisfy the pedants, when people talked about grunge during this period this is what they meant.
I am including Mad Season and Temple of the Dog as their lineup consisted primarily of the main players from the above bands. These were grunge albums from grunge 'super groups'. Plus Seasons.
I am also including the major released b-sides or songs that were on the major compilations of that era.
256 total songs for a no byes tournament
Pearl Jam: Ten, Vs, Vitalogy, Merkin Ball (not including master/slave, stupid mop and pry to), Crazy Mary, Breath, State of Love and Trust, Yellow Ledbetter, Alone, Footsteps, Wash (43 songs)
Nirvana: Nevermind, Insecticide, In Utero, (not including endless nameless) Verse Chorus Verse, I Hate Myself and Want to Die (39)
Alice in Chains: Dirt, Alice in Chains, Sap, and Jar of Flies (does not include iron gland the hidden song on sap) plus What the Hell Have I (36)
Soundgarden: Badmotorfinger, Superunknown, Show Me, Seasons, Birth Ritual (30)
Stone Temple Pilots: Core and Purple ( does not include 12 gracious melodies, No Memory, or Wet My Bed) 21
Smashing Pumpkins: Gish, Siamese Dream, Pieces Iscariot, Mellon Collie, Glynis, Drown (66)
Temple of the Dog (10)
Mad Season (10)
I'm looking to start this late August, so that's plenty of time to argue about what I missed, check my math, debate what should be included, and what we should do differently.
Rip this apart now while there is still time to change it.

Yeah SP wasn't grunge. But I like them so it'll be fun to vote on their stuff.

I'm picking 1991-1995 because that way the Pearl Jam songs I prefer will win.

Should scale back to 94, maybe even 93. Grunge died with Dookie

Re: Best of Grunge Tournament 1991-1995
i thought about 94, but Alice in Chains and Mellon Collie feel like quintessential grunge records. plus i wanted to get to 256

1989-1996 is even better. Get No Code, Bleach, and Down on the Upside in there.
Please consider voting for me

Re: Best of Grunge Tournament 1991-1995
broaden to 1989-1996. add No Code, Bleach, and DOTU. remove Mad Season. add Nirvana's Even In His Youth and Aneurysm. then who cares bc this is stupid.stip wrote:can you make the math work?
