Blew vs. I'm Above

Blew is one of the better songs on Bleach, but I'm Above is amazing. One of the songs that brought Mark Lanegan to my attention. Great muscular rock and playful interplays between him and Layne Staley. Great chorus, too. This is a monster of a minor song, and easily gets my vote.


If you aren't familiar with this one give it a listen. You won't regret it.

Yeah this is an easy vote for I'm Above, but I totally thought this was gonna be a stip title botch for SP's Blue.

I have a soft spot for Bleach, and what a way to start the album?! Whatever 'muscular rock' is, I can't imagine I'm Above being more muscular than Blew...

and Mark Lanegan is O-VER-RA-TED!

I don't particularly like either of these that much, though I don't hate them either. I don't really like Layne and Mark's voices together on I'm Above. I'd probably like it better if either of them just sang it alone. And the song itself is kind of monotonous. Blew is a forgettable early Nirvana song to me. It just kind of blends into everything that is Bleach and Incesticide. Voted for Blew to tie it up.

Agreed.

"Blew" has pretty much everything Nirvana was good at packed tightly in a song less than 3 minutes long. This tournament is really reminding me how alien Nirvana was in the context of the rest of the "Big 6". I hope this song wins this round.

I've been listening to these songs, and then I put on Nevermind for the first time in forever, and I was reminded at how staggeringly good that album is, and how little I care about so many of these b-sides and their bleach and bleachish material.

Which is fascinating to me. Because I think Incesticide is a "better" album than Nevermind. And Bleach has some incredibly high highs. I'm not sure that I'd rank Bleach above Nevermind but I certainly wouldn't get mad at someone who did.

Nevermind is very easily the worst Nirvana album.

Again, I wouldn't say "easily." But I actually don't think it's a ridiculous opinion.

But Bleach is so fucking good. Really, it's probably tied with Nevermind.
